Was browsing ebay and noticed the just superceded model 530 for $150 and Tour for $130 on sale . Ads say they are official Garmin refurbs with 1yr warranty and all new accessories and in as new condition. Sounds like a great deal for what are still great devices.

No idea about their eBay auctions, but I've ordered numerous times from GPS City's website with no issues.

I think I got my 1030 from them new a few years ago, at a great price.

For what it's worth the Garmin 540 is coming soon but hasn't been announced to the public yet. The 530 is still the current model. Garmin is still charging full price for it (they'll discount it right before the 540 is released).

I'm not familiar with GPS cycling computers...I've been using my phone w/ Strava app since getting back into riding @ 2 years ago, but the battery life on my phone has been steadily declining to the point I have to carry a small power bank on most rides.

Best deal I've seen on refurb Garmin Edge units right now is the Edge Explore for $99 from BuyDig on Ebay. GPS City has refurb 1030s for $270 and 530s for $140 if you're looking for a more fully featured bike computer.

I've been using Lezyne bike computers for years and am pretty happy with them - for what they do: Interface with sensors, display data and collect track info for post-ride analysis. They also last a long time between charges. What they don't do (or at least do pretty poorly) is display maps. For the price I figured I'd give the refurb Edge Explore a try and see if I like the Garmin approach before committing to one of their more expensive units.

The GPSCity 530 and Tour have full manufacture warranty and are "as new" so my guess is that Garmin is trying to clear old stock and selling them through GPScity which is why they have full warranty. I'd much rather a "as new" device for $130 with full warranty than "refurb" (aka - second hand) for $99. Unfortunately I just bought a new bike computer but this is a screaming deal as Garmins are seldom discounted for more than 10 or 20% so half price is very good.

The Edge Explore from BuyDig is "Certified Garmin Refurbished" while the 530 from GPS City is also listed as "Certified Refurbished". They both have the 1 year warranty. I don't think one is likely to be "more used" than the other, but I guess I'll find out.

​​​​​​FYI. Garmin will want to clear old stock when they're ready to release the 540. When that happens, the price will fall just about everywhere, not only from one store.

Also worth noting that the RVR315 bike radar (the one without the tail light) is now on sale for $99.99. Sold by BuyDig on Ebay.

yes, you're right WAYOLD, the Edge Explore from seller BUYDIG looks the same as the one at GPSCITY in "like new" condition but for just $99. Considering that the model 1040 is $599 and the old Explore does 90% of the new models functions, this is a easily the best bang-for-buck full mapping computer deal out there.
Also note that GPS City is selling the just superseded 1030 for $299.

The best deal I'm seeing currently on the 1030 Plus is $449 from Bike Closet (new). While the original 1030 is available as a certified refurb from GPS City for $270. I considered both of these before jumping on the $99 Edge Explore. The extra battery life and Trailforks integration of the 1030 Plus, in particular, appeal to me. Mostly though, I've been interested in trying a Varia Radar on my road bike and the Edge explore was the cheapest head unit with a decent display size that would interface to a Varia. That the RVR315 showed up on sale at the same time just made the decision that much easier.

The Explore is basically a 1000 with some features missing (so it's kind of old). The Explore 2 is new (it's basically a 1030+ with some features missing).

The Explore at $99 is completely reasonable. Good luck with it.

Interesting that DC Rainmaker says the varia units are useless in the city..lol..and only useful to him on quiet country roads or mountain routes.

That's because cars in cities are made of balloons and can't hurt you.

How much will Garmin cut from a new 530's price? $80? $100? A Garmin-refurbed 530 at $150 is pretty compelling to me, or would be if I hadn't bought a Garmin-refurbed 820 for $190. I'd rather have the 530, but the 820 works for me; I just wish its battery lasted longer than it does.

It's said that you can't time 'the' market reliably, and that's probably true for all markets. If you want something, you've got to make a choice between buying now and buying later.

...which brings the new 530 at some unspecified time in the future (though probably pretty soon) down to $225, or $85 more than the (presumably) Garmin-refurbed unit, which is $140 now; that's more than a 50% premium. I can see arguments for waiting to buy new, but I can see probably more compelling arguments for buying now.

GPS City has now dropped the price on 1030 refurbs to $250. If it goes any lower I'll start second guessing my purchase of the Edge Explore.

Also worth noting for those who want to deal with overseas shipping... r2-bike in Germany has the 1030 Plus on sale for 332 Euro. Even with 25 Euro shipping cost the favorable exchange rate makes the total shipped cost to the US about $380 - substantially cheaper than the best current domestic price on these. Many European vendors won't ship Garmin (and lots of other brands) to the US, but I got all the way to the payments page and r2-bike was apparently ready to take my order. YMMV.

​​​​​​A refurb will have a new battery, so 100% health. People say they're indistinguishable from new. Personally I think there's a good argument to wait for the 540 because it has software features the 530 will never get, but if price rules it out the case for waiting longer to pay more for new vs renewed is smaller. Just my opinion.

My watch died after 3 years, the warranty is only 1 year. Garmin replaced it anyway. Online there are a lot of people saying they had some kind of Garmin that finally gave up the ghost long after the warranty expired, and they just replaced it anyway. The refurbs have the same warranty, so I would feel confident in their longevity and the company standing behind them.
