Very sweet picture! I love the contrast of the dry desert against the snowy LaSalls.

I went for my first ride of the year. OK, my first ride of more than a mile.

Took the "new" 86 Trek out- I was expecting to just go to the highway and back- about 5 miles round trip. I was enjoying the ride, so I figured I'd throw another mile or so onto it. After that I was enjoying it, so I kept going. After another 2-3 miles I started to realize I hadn't eaten yet, and I was pitifully out of biking shape- so I turned around- into the wind. I had an enjoyable, cold, shakey and very tired ride home.

I really dig my "new" bike.

What was odd today, I ran into around only 3 other guys on bikes (nice ones). Only one said "hi" to me, and he even beat me to saying it. The other two just looked at me when I said "hi." I'm sure they both heard me. Maybe I wasn't wearing proper enough cycling gear. *shrug*

Day three of Moab Skinny Tire Festival: 42 miles in Arches National Park. Bjorn dodged school - and me work - so we could indulge in more food and snacks at this well stocked and luxuriously catered event. About 300 riders started on this cool Monday morning. The road in Arches, one of my favorite local rides, is an out and back route with a total of 5 significant climbs through stunning scenery. Sorry, no pics of this all too often photographed landscape.

^^^^ Good stuff right there, your a lucky man....

I took my first REAL ride with my Gran Turismo since I bought it and did the rebuild. Took it on a 20 mile ride, and it performed flawlessly. Here are a couple pics.

^^^ Very nice, CapeCodder! That Univega is nicely done. This area is finally starting to feel nice again, innit?

I finally got to put my new Shogun 650B conversion to good use: it saw its first metric century yesterday along the North Shore. Took the train from North Station up to Salem, then from there did Gloucester-Rockport-Gloucester-Ipswich-Salem. Beautiful coastal roads. The weather had called for 50 degrees and sunny, but instead it was 40s, cloudy and WINDY as all get out. I didn't get many pics in because I was with a fast group (I got dropped a couple times, partly because I was (A) weak from fighting a cold, and (B) out of shape from spending all my winter time building bikes instead of riding!). The bike performed flawlessly, having only had minor adjustments to the saddle and derailleur limit screws since the bike got released from the workstand!

Here's the bike the day before the ride, doing a short 20 miles to make sure everything was working. This was only the second ride the bike had ever had.

And from a short break yesterday at Gloucester:

That's JPtwins in the second photo, he was in the group.

Hey CC, Southpaw!
You guys from MA really have excellent taste in bikes.

Capecodder 03-14-11 05:57 PM

^^^^ I love that bike!!!! You did a fine job for sure.

I think I'm going to ditch the modern seat wedge for a nice canvas bag, and my panniers. I'm not sure about the Topeak bar bag either....

On a paved trail that runs parallel to Lower Vine Brook near Adams St. in Lexington, MA. That's North Street in the far background.

While riding around the neighborhood last night, I snapped this picture of an old factory down the street from me.

^^^ Very nice. I love old industrial architecture. I grew up in Kingston, but forget where that building is? Somewhere near the Strand?

Damn. Remind me again why I moved back east from California? Something about family roots? Boy, that was a mistake!

Beautiful building. Hopefully it gets restoration rather than the wrecking ball. The United States Lace marquee adds to the patina. Thanks for posting.

YoKev 03-15-11 01:47 PM

Southpaw, the building is across the street from the RR tracks at the intersection of South Manor, Foxhall Avenue, and Cornell St. in Midtown. The Strand has beautiful industrial buildings as well, but its mostly old houses, churches, and storefronts. Midtown is where it's at for old industry :) I'm excited you guys enjoyed the picture! I'll have to take some more from around the 'hood.

Capecodder 03-15-11 03:50 PM

I started work early today so I cut out early to go for a ride. I took the backroads today, and enjoyed the ride. Got a couple shots of the cranberry bogs for those who have never seen them before.

Yeah, sometimes that happens. How's the new Trek feel?
I've been out the past couple weeks; even got the first chase by a dog in. I'm old and slow, but the dog was older and slower.

Went for a 40 mile ride today thru the northern burbs of Chicago. Weather was a bit nippy to start, nasty headwind, grey skies. Then the sun came out and the return trip was tailwind enhanced.
Outside a restaurant, now closed down.

What's been keeping you indoors? :twitchy: I would think in the Dallas area you could ride year round with no problems, adjusting for the heat in the summer and avoiding the few snowy days in the winter. :innocent: Get some tights, some gloves, and winter riding shoes/boots and don't hold back. :D

Welcome to the C&V community. :)

I managed to squeeze in two rides this week. One solo on St. Patricks day, and with C&Ver Bluesdaddy on the Ides of March. The temp was a comfortable 50F and 38F respectively. Of course it didn't happen unless there were pictures.

Ides of March at 38F (I'm in yellow and Bluesdaddy is in blue (of course )).

St. Patrick's at 50F (first the winter sand, and second the lake is still good for ice fishing).

That's just a bit steep for a indoor trainer..... What bike are you using that you average 26.2mph on for 10 miles?
