I'm not a fan of any competition that does not have an objective winner.

That includes beauty pageants of all types - skateboarding, figure skating, gymnastics, etc.

datlas 07-26-21 08:30 AM

Example of current generation gap:

Heidi is dog-sitting her bosses dogs. One is named "Stormy," so I said oh like Stormy Daniels?? Heidi said "Who is that? I don't know them, but I think it's like Kylie Jenner's daughter Stormi."

Bottom line: Heidi does not know who Stormy Daniels is, and I don't know who Stormi Webster is.

:50:

edit: pics for dog lovers, Jedi on the left and Sormy/Stormi on the right.

Gymnastics basically has some objective criteria for the scoring. Figure skating is dumb.

She was all over the news three years ago.

Are Shimano R7000 pedals any good? Asking for a friend.

I am a Look guy myself, but I believe these are fine pedals.

Daughter of Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott (nee Webster).

A few years ago I saw Kylie's sister, Kendall, at Whole Food with Ben Simmons, who she was dating at the time.

I am so NOT keeping up with the Kardashians.

I probably would've known who Stormy Daniels was if that had happened when I was Heidi's age Since we only had the one TV in the house, we were forced to watch evening news while waiting for dinner.

I think figure skating does as well. Pretty sure both "sports" have difficulty ratings that apply to all tricks, and then there's a style component also.

I'm not a fan of that type of "competition" though.

Proper olympic skateboarding events would include downhill, slalom, highest ollie, highest vert air, and maybe a pusher race.

Figure skating has some kind of "artistic" gobbledygook. I think there's also some kind of technical skills thing they don't show on TV. 95% of the people watching couldn't explain how the scoring works.

Prime Time TV starts at 7pm here.
I reckon we didn't do that as much back on the east coast, just after we got out here to PHX. Here, BITD, we had local news beginning at 5pm, and when the Fox affiliate started doing local news they started at 4:30.

Nowadays, PHX is an OTA news junkies' paradise:

There's local news on at least one of the 4 channels:
0400-0900 hours
1100-1230
1600-1900
2000-2300

I think some will rerun their 10 o'clocks in the wee hours, but I'm never up for that.

I went to my local after I saw Simmons and mentioned it. A few women got excited and asked if Kendall was with him. I had no idea who that was. They thought I was crazy. Had to look up a photo of her.

BTW…They are Caitlin Jenner’s daughters, not Kardashians.

Dinner at our house has typically been at 7:00 or later. I went through a lot of years where I didn't get home until then. We still usually eat about that time.

On the east coast, with the exception of 3 years in southern Italy in the early 70s.

I think they did away with technical/compulsory skills part a while back. I remember the competitors had to do things like figure eights.

big john 07-26-21 10:45 AM

I watched the replay (on-line) of the men's cross-country mountain bike race this morning. What a grueling race! Steep climbs and technical rock sections with dust everywhere. 1.5 hours of red lining their heart rate. This highlight clip doesn't show much of the climbs.

You're right, they were called "school figures". Gone for years.

Do they still have the 'dancing with long streamers/ribbons' competition?

Trsnrtr 07-26-21 11:42 AM

I just turned the tv on and it’s 3 on 3 half court basketball. Wut?

Street ball to go with street skateboarding.

Next up - one wall paddleball, singles and doubles.

Yeah, I looked it up.

When will they have Pickleball at the Olympics? Maybe next time.
