I always heard tales of New Orleans Drive thru daiquiris, and they'd put a little piece of Scotch tape over the straw hole so they could call it a closed container.

You heard right on the tape.

Not too long ago, we went to New Iberia for Marci Gras because a friend was the Krew Queen. Her husband arranged limos to ferry their guests so nobody would be driving after drinking. When we were leaving the gala, there were cops everywhere. The next day I asked our host what they would do if someone was trying to drive home really drunk. He said it would go something like this, “Boudreaux, you be careful goin on home. Don’t give me no reason to make me come git you.”

Haven’t ever heard of a drive up window at a bar or liquor store in Texas in the 40 years I’ve been here. Open containers in the passenger compartment has always been a big no-no.

Now, Louisiana until about the late 80s was a whole nutha thing.

Mansfield must be on the wrong side of the Metroplex. I can tell you for a fact that enforcement of the liquor laws, really a lot of laws in general, were not enforced much in the area west of I35/north of I20. Born(1965) and raised in the Wichita Falls area with relatives spread throughout the state. Left in '89. Montague County in particular, had a reputation as a very lawless area. Lots of Meth manufactured in that county/area. Even Abilene, with it's 3 religious colleges had lax liquor enforcement. Open containers? They would make you pour them out and be on their way. IDs not really checked much. Out in the boonies, there was nothing else for the kids to do besides drink and something else. Maybe that Baptist stronghold in Waco had control of your area. I don't remember any drive through window stores. I do remember the people in the dry counties having to make liquor runs. There was this one town called Windthorst between WF and Jacksboro on the Archer/Clay County line. Archer was wet and Clay was dry. The town straddled the line so it was the main place for the Clay people's liquor runs. German Catholic dairy town. They had a legendary dance every other weekend that people would drive 100 miles+ each way to attend. Put on by the Catholic church and "chaperoned" by the priests. 16 and over BYOB. The locals would go to Mass, head straight down the hill to the liquor store, fill up their coolers, then come back up the hill to the Fellowship Hall where the dance was being held!
The rule inside the building/dance was no fighting allowed. However, when the band went on break, the would be fighters had to go outside and duke it out. They couldn't get out of it. The patrons would empty out into the front of the building and form a circle around the fighters. Then they had to go until a winner was declared. All under the watchful eye of the Church, of course.

The Carolinas have the chain of drive throughs known as Brew Thrus.

Had a frustrating morning. So I decided to treat myself. It was fine and warm so I took my oldest bike out for a ride on a nice smooth cycle way that goes out to a satellite town. Stopped at some fellow cycle nutter friends on the way home. It was a good way to improve teh day.

I have the Rudy Project version. They’re ok, but the Rx inserts need to be removed to be cleaned fully. I got them because my Rx keeps changing.

It may not last, but for now the Phillies are on top in the NL East.

Time to ride.

I was looking forward to getting in my first ride since Wed - I saw last night that the winds would be changing by morning, likely improving air quality.

I was woken by thunderstorms, instead. :notamused:

woke up to the sky leaking. Don’t want to get either bike wet. Eating yogurt with granola instead.

My Fuji CX had that hardware, but I only had 46/36 up front.
