Yes, it's a good thing. They've been together for over 6 years, and he's a really good guy. They are ready. We are as excited as they are.

Heading to Colorado tomorrow to celebrate with them and his parents.

Because girls tolerate it. If they didn't, boys would shave them off in a hurry.

That's why I've never had one. Wife hates facial hair.

My wife doesn't mind, but I looked like a smug little fool when I had one back in the 80s, plus it was at least three different colors.

My son in-law is pure viking with hair down below his shoulders and a wild red beard. Better than a goatee.

My wife used to tolerate my previous stupid goatee thing (lower lip and chin, trimmed pretty short). Once I shaved it off, she has made it clear that it shall not return.

At least she waited before lowering the boom.

When I retired from uniformed service, everyone wanted to know what kind of beard I was going to grow.

Mrs. GeneJockey likes me with a beard or without, but is really bothered by stubble. So I either need to have a full beard or be clean-shaven, and recently.

I usually take most of the winter off. My tolerance for cold has dropped further.

In 2012 I split the end of my collar bone in a freak crash. That was the first weekend of June. No biking whatsoever for the next month, then baby steps. In mid-August I did the metric course (over 8,000' of climbing) of D2R2, which is a mostly dirt road randonee ride in western Mass/Vermont. Early September went out to Oregon for Cycle Oregon, which included riding up to and around Crater Lake.

I think if I tried to replicate that progression today I would die.

Mine comes in pretty scraggly. Haven't had one for years.

Oh, and almost my entire adult life till maybe 10 years ago I had a full beard. Sometime around 50, it had all turned white, so I shaved it off to rid myself of the 'Santa Claus' effect. Made me look 10 years younger, but also the fact that my lower face had been covered all those years kept the skin from aging quite so much, which is nice.

Did you ever notice that the frequency of shaving is often directly proportional to the frequency of sex?

That's why I don't have a beard, though with testosterone <10 ng/dL, I can't hardly grow anything anymore, anyway.

For years, my riding fell off A LOT at the end of DST, because it makes riding after work impossible, and even though every year I'd try to motivate myself to ride the trainer, I'd start finding excuses not to, and after a couple weeks not be riding it at all, and then only doing shorter weekend rides. Come Spring I'd start off with short rides and slowly build back up, accent on 'slowly'.

Getting on Zwift made all the difference. This was the first winter that I 'rode through' and even increased my fitness. Usually about now, I'd have built back up to doing 18 mile rides during the week and maybe as much as 50 on a Sunday. Now I'm doing 25 miles most weekday rides and 55-65 on Sundays.

That is not currently true in my house...unfortunately.

You're not seeing any pictures of my from the beard days.

No. Inversely, but I think it's a case of correlation not implying causation.

A new thing I've noticed about being old is that not only do I need more time to recover from hard rides, but that too much rest makes me slow. I've definitely been strongest this season after periods of heavier training, even though I was stressed. There seems to be a fine line between exhaustion and loss of that last edge of fitness.

In other news, just as my oak mite bites were getting better, I was stung three times by something nasty on the way home from work, yesterday. Now that has stopped hurting and started itching too.

The IRS?

I think that's the only one I have on-line or on my computer. I had some others pictures but I don't know where they are, the ex might have taken them.

I only have that one because the woman in the pic posted it and I copied it.

That's about the only part of my face that will grow hair in a socially-acceptable manner. These days, the color would be quite a bit different.

Oh, the hell with discretion and vanity. Here I am with the future LSS, circa 1983.

Your beard fills in nicely. Might be white these days, though? I know mine is.

Mojo31 08-19-21 03:47 PM

You hit one out of the park, Mo.
