Removed the last spacer and torqued it down. In the 5 mins it took me to do this I got drenched in sweat so I will test ride it later.

As of now there is no play. If play develops after the test ride then I will repack it with grease. I have not done that since I bought the bike.

Side note, If I like the position of the stem, where do I go to get rid of my bikes massive erec*****, I mean spacer stack.

It has been raining all frigging day here again. I did a zwift ride before the Urologist appointment today. 2.3 . Gotta have another scan of my kidneys and a follow up. So much for my out of pocket being reasonable.

A sharp, fine-toothed saw will take care of it nicely - the inexpensive Japanese-style pull saws at Home Depot/Lowes are perfect. Some kind of jig to cut it straight and square helps a lot, too.

For crabon steerers, we would use the gritty blade, And wear a mask!

Editted) (you really should shove some grease in there) You get to cut the steerer tube. Or, safer yet, let a shop do it. It needs to be cut , depending on your expander, about 1/8 of an inch below the top of the stem to give room to tighten the play out of the system. It's sweaty, shaky, dizzying work. I measured about 5 times and have even taken pictures of the tape measure. So I know I'm correct when I start cutting. I have an old mntn bike stem I use as a guide. I hate doing it. It stresses me out.

Programming note: Pirates vs. Mets is about to commence!

Also, just a safety p.s.a.
Be very careful tightening stems that are on unsupported steertubes. I have a very expensive wallhanger/lesson about that around here somewhere. Spacers and caps on top of the stem. Trying to dial the fit. Got a little to rambunctious with the Allen wrench. "Snick!" ...... (much blue language in this space!) 1 ride, $250.00, ...... No bueno..... cracked the steer tube. The expander supports the tube from inside and adds a lot of compression resistance. So be careful.

Went for a post-work swim. Daughter #1 lives in an apartment complex that has a pool. It was very refreshing.

I scrubbed one wall of the pool in the heat and humidity after mowing the back lawn in the heat and humidity. It was decidedly unrefreshing.

I've never used a saw for cycling activities.

I prolly will not want to do it myself.

Do I put grease on both top and bottom? Should I clean the bearings before adding grease? Silly questions, but have yet to mess with it.

The neighborhood peacock is dropping his tail feathers because mating season is over. Best thing about it is he is now quiet and doesn't scream his head off.

Right. It's something any good bike shop can do while you wait, plus if THEY screw up it's their problem to replace it, but if YOU screw up it's all on you.

There was a video on GCN with that cyclocross rider from New England somewhere (loved his videos!) where he's building up a new Orbea gravel bike, and cuts the steerer too short. He actually goes outside and lies down on the grass, IIRC. It was still long enough to work, just a bit too short for how he wanted it to fit.

Probably 6-7 with gloves and heaters for me. I'd definitely have to get back to lots of running in the winters. That's a project to keep me busy.

2. At another place within their comfortable rent range, they were told that they would only qualify if each of them (all 25 with good paying jobs) made at least $165,000 per year for a combined household income of right at $500,000. Hard to do when you are just two years out of school. Seems their combined incomes of about $300,000 was just not enough.

SMH

That sounds odd to me. Glad we didn't have to deal with that two years ago. For the latter, I do wonder if it was wanting each of them to be able to afford the place individually, in case the others lost jobs or flaked. I know that was the situation with the apartment we rented in Troy later in college. Still, that makes it very hard to get started as a ute. I have two coworkers - software developers - who are living with their parents. The bank wants them to move to CLT "after the pandemic", which...
