Chrome Ritchey from ebay/CL finds
So I couldn't resist this, chrome, good shape, my size, Campy HS, RDO's and CC rear brake.
Off to Bainbridge island I go, Cannonball run. Great guy, we talk, he wasn't any more sure about it than I/we are. I'm getting ready to offer him less than asking and he says "these were on it when I got it", he pulls out the scratch built bullmoose and custom stem, also finds the cam plate for the brake. I ask if the bars and stem come with it and says if you buy it and I think was about to say if I pay full asking which at this point I am planning to. We talk for awhile more and his wife shows up says to him to see if I want any cycling shorts. Turns out they owned a clothing company and sold it after a good run with it and still had a bunch of inventory that did not go with the sale. He brings out a couple of storage boxes and says take all you want. I grab 3 new pair and we talk some more then I hit the road. 400mi. round trip and I was back home. I cobbled together some stuff to make it look more like a bike. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c3dc80b927.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3a05e336e9.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cbdaed05e0.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14d099988f.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2a631b3869.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dbebfe504d.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...eef5050b6f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3eef999646.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2399dfd320.jpg Paging @jdawginsc and @ascherer And Tx to @sheddle for posting it to begin with. |

Jackpot! Those bars are over the top.
It still wasn't cheap, some things never are. |
Great find. Tom Ritchey has occasionally expressed interest in seeing examples of his early bikes, bars, etc. Maybe try getting in touch with him.

WOW, talk about some slack angles. Sweet ride.
What group set are you going to use? |
Interesting and I like the proportions.
My wife would say you need to invest in some rose stakes. https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/f81...2&odnBg=ffffff |

Its an 82 so maybe mine is too although the roller cam rear brake is attributed to the Timber Comp in 84. Lots of questions even with a lot of info on these. :foo: |
What a great fruitful trip! That’s incredible!
How early do you think that is? Stem rod and bull moose... Edit for my ADD...you said 1982. Beautiful brazing... |

What group set are you going to use? The crank may stay for now too, it has needed to get rethreaded to BSA so now it will, although I do have a French thread set of Campy SR pedals I swapped out to French spindles to keep the crank on a PX-10 unmolested. This crank was always earmarked for a project like this. It would have gone on the Merz MTB if it hadn't had a custom drilled by Jim Dyna Drive with pedal adapters that he also made. |

We really don't know year, roller cam on these is 84, but many 84's have vertical DO's, no s/n on this one and no other chrome ones that I have found. Seems like these bar and stem are early along with over BB guides, Campy horizontal RDO's, etc. |
Wow!!!!
If I'd known that cockpit came with, I'd probably gone over to get it. |

If I'd known that cockpit came with, I'd probably gone over to get it. Then made sure I had time but still didn't get out of there until 430?, and still had a good 45min. to an hour of stop and go as it was. :twitchy: Couldn't believe it when he pulled out the bars and stem, then said they were included and gave me a 20 yr. supply of shorts too. :) |
Great score, merziac!
I saw the post here as well. It was a ferry ride and an hour and a half away. If it were another inch taller in the seat tube, I might have gone after it. Looking forward to your build thread on it. Again, congratulations. |

Again, congratulations. But it seems they are not to be found and this is a case where they will command a premium in more ways than one even being bigger. Which can be a deterrent but probably not on these. ;) |
Beautiful machine!
I can tell you are excited by the run-on sentences:D! |
Nice Score! my 1985 Ascent has the same bars/Stem

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6b45824b4d.jpg Very cool, more pics, had since new? Seems like the stem styles are all over the map year wise. :foo: Or they've been swapped around over the years. |
Oh and another thing, 12.6 lb. F+F, HS, HB + stem, BB, R Roller cam and RDO screws. :foo:

Gorgeous and I'm super glad a C+Ver picked it up!
Any chance we can get a beauty shot of the rollercam? |

Any chance we can get a beauty shot of the rollercam? So glad you outed it, the others didn't pounce even as I drug my feet, there was more to the story/deal and I got it. ;) Absolutely, standby. ;) |
