Serotta value appraisal
I don't know much bout Serottas, I've always believed they were great machines. One is up for sale in my area. I'd be curious to know the general appraisal of these bikes. The one here displayed is a "Colorado". Equiped with Ultegra 6500 from what I can tell.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0eacb23cb4.png Based on eBay mentions it is Tange Prestige 1992 or 93. They range from $1200 to $1750. I would think locally you could get it for less. |
I think $1200 to $1750 is quite a bit too high, especially with Ultegra. This nice one in the Boston area (a hot market) has been listed for awhile and was listed last fall for a long time at a somewhat lower price.

It's listed at $550 CAD !

that is like $437 US

Fairly aggressive riding position with a reversed seatpost to get as far forward as possible. Was this used as a tri bike? I'd inspect the top tube very carefully for rust caused by sweating over the long haul.
|
If it fits and it is fully functional and there's no frame damage, that is an absolute steal.

I'm not wild about the components or wheel set but at this price i it is a very good deal. If the frame is good no issues with nice paint it is worth close to the asking price you could change out most of the components and still be fine value wise for a keeper.

I don't know, I'm leary of the how the stem looks to the head tube. It's not inline, could have some issue.
|
Looks closer to 2000 to me, like it might be a Colorado III. Reversed post may be because the frame is too big for the current owner, as the post in quite low. Stem alignment issue may be because it's so high and ready to pop out. Unfortunately, it's a fuzzy, non-drive photo, so the frame integrity and mechanicals are difficult to assess. However, if there aren't any frame issues beyond cosmetics, that would be a good deal, even if some of the components have some issues.

I'd agree with T-Mar above, on the year. No braze on shifter mounts on the downtube. Instead cable stops on headtube means 2000ish or newer. That fork is nothing Serotta made. Tig welded?
Probably a nice riding frame, but lower end for Serotta. |
Serotta catalogs here:
https://forums.thepaceline.net/forumdisplay.php?f=18 Colorado III had the clamp on FD best I can tell while the earlier Colorado II had a braze-on. Curious as to value too as I'm mulling over moving my CSI on but have no clue as to true values on these. The Paceline Forum is the Serotta forum so you might ask over there too. |

That's a fantastic candidate to strip down to frame & fork, get rid of all the mismatched and messed-up stuff, and put a proper groupset on it. That would transform the bike from an afterthought some student was using to go to the shop, to a thing of beauty that will eat up sportives and give someone years of enjoyment.
