I'm too old to ride long distances comfortably with saddle to handlebar drop so put Technomic stems on both of my sport tourers.

Paintstripper?. The same way I removed the champagne. I would've left the original paint had it not been so faded and patched in spots.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=409176I bought this Fuji Saratoga from the original owner and swapped over both bags, pedals, pump kit and lights from my previous bikes. I rewrapped the bars, gave the bar end shifters a good cleaning and reattached the original hoods it came with and used some liquid electrical tape and vinyl electrical tape to fill in the gaps (I originally cut them off to put new hoods on but found out it wouldn't be as easy). As seen in other threads, the mirrors the bike originally came with were sawed off.

Cool bike- but you know those mirrors just screw off- there's a nut on the inside- it'll be a whole lot easier to put new hoods on if you remove the stumps of the mirrors- you probably could have sold those.

Didn't see any on a quick GOOGLE blitz.

He had two Mirrycle mirrors on- one on each brake lever.

Now he's got the stumps of Mirrycle mirrors on.

Looking at E-buy, doesn't seem that mirrors fetch much of a price.

They're great- they're in the perfect position, stable enough to actually see stuff behind you, totally adjustable- I've put them on every bike I have with non-aero cables.

I have one bike that has aero levers, I have a mirror that clamps on to the bars- It's nowhere near as stable as the Mirrycle.

I hate riding without a mirror.

Looking back I see the pic of my vintage touring bike, a 1975 Peugeot PX 60, has disappeared from when I posted it a couple of years. Also, it has evolved since then so I have a good excuse to post it again :)

I've carried out one modification since I took this photo last December - the 36T Campagnolo chain wheel has been swapped with a customised 32T Sugino wheel (I had it drilled to fit the 100 BCD of the Campagnolo crank - it was originally 74 BCD).

It works fine but during a trip in Hokkaido in August, 20 kms up to a mountain pass fully laden with camping equipment, I realised the 28T at the back wasn't enough. Next mod - a 34T at the back.

I love the "I'M ON A BICYCLE" arm. I recall you said it works and it doesn't get drivers mad.

That's great work on the smaller chainring.

Go all the way with one of those old Suntour AG 38s!!!

There's a lot to be said for getting the bars higher on a touring bike. Those are good looking bikes.

Yeah, it works a treat. No negative reactions. Everyone gives you a wide berth.

No sure about the AG 38... I'm hoping 34 will be enough. A Japanese friend mentioned that for touring you needed 1 to 1, so 32 should be enough (as the front is 32). We'll see. I removed the white lettering from the large cog on a Shimano MEGA RANGE the other day :)

32 to 34 is a nice low gear- It looks kind of goofy if you've got a 14-28 and then big 34 bailout cog- but it totally makes sense- and Shimano's branding on it is just gaudy. I used a Sharpie to color over it, but I'm sure that will wear off.
