How Light Can You Build It?
 

I've been bored today fooling around on competitivecyclist.com and seeing how light a bike I can build (and how expensive) while I kind of daydream and drool over the bikes on there.

I built a 55cm BMC SLR01 at 12.84lbs WITH pedals. $13,028.50 SRAM Red, carbon bar and stem, Reynolds RZR46, antares carbon saddle, etc.

How light can you get a road bike with pedals on that site?

At weight weenies people build sub 12lb bikes all the time and even sub 10lb with obscenely expensive boutique parts and custom modding.

I thought your interest in expensive light bikes would be piqued by that website, just trying to expand your knowledge.

The BMC is an awesome bike, but there are lighter frames out there.

Also I built up a sub-13lb. Scott Addict R1 for less then $7,000.

You're doing it wrong.

You can build an 11lb bike with around $5k, maybe a bit over on either side.

There's sub 900 gm "generic" frames already, plus ~250gm carbon tubulars for very cheap.

At worst you're hitting 12lb fully loaded. You can get a 140gm pair of pedals for like ~150. (bebop+aftermarket Ti spindles)

BTW: Is it just my computer or is this normal? When I putting together a build kit on CC, every time I pick a component it takes about 20 seconds for the site to think about it before I can continue.

Drillium the frameium, then drillium the rest of it. Just the cost of the bits and a drill. Swiss cheese it all.

R5CA with Super Record, Enve 25's with dash hubs, dash saddle, and Schmolke carbon cockpit will probably be the lightest bike you can build with off the shelf components.
