It's not always a good idea to rely on modern dictionaries.

This is also why the people pushing to switch the language to phonetic spelling are wrong-headed.

Went out for 3 hours this morning, got scared by some drivers. Some days are like that, like they had a meeting last night with all the drivers deciding to drive crazy.
Anyway, got home ok and a realtor was showing the crap house to a family of 6. How 6 people could live in that thing is beyond me. (first world problem).

There is a house called the Kinsey Mansion north of here, miles from anything, really. They use it for movie shoots, commercial, and stuff. We ride by it sometimes. It might be torn down to make room for the expansion of the aqueduct system.

I have a new respect for those of you who can (still) ride hills. I was never a good climber, but I could do it. I can't anymore. I spent an inordinate amount of time in the smallest ring. Back to the flatlands for me.

and an AWESOME porch

A few days ago Mrs. abshipp & I got to sit on our porch during a reasonably strong thunderstorm, complete with close lightning strikes & loud thunder.

Didn't get wet except from a few wind gusts.

Lots of our neighbors came outside to watch the storm themselves.

Southern porches are awesome.

I had another "Oh, My God!! I LOVE this bike!!!" experiences, this time with the Schwinn Circuit. I felt like I'd been neglecting it, and I'd gone to the trouble of getting a 22t and a 26t cog, to make the gearing a little easier for my old legs. So I took it out for a 65 mile ride, and WOW, it was great!!! Not just a pretty face! Between the steel frame and the VIttoria Corsa tires, the ride was comfy but it never felt too mushy or flexy. The SIS gears work great, even on a Uniglide cassette. I think rotating the Biopace chainrings really makes the difference.

This is the 22" frame I dithered over, not sure I could make it fit me, since I usually ride 58 or 59 (23-23 1/2"). But with a longer seatpost and a 130mm stem, the length is good. The bar is a good 2cm lower than most of my other bikes, but with a Soma Highway One bar, I can still use the drops for riding into the wind. Surprisingly comfortable! And I was afraid I'd have to get a Nitto Technomic stem.

Nope. We missed the storms. We were just on the north edge and just got a few sprinkles and a lot of weather warnings. Belleville, OK? My wife's grandparents lived on "A" Street in Belleville.

The hotel bed in Fairview Heights rumbled this morning.

My parents and sister live in the 59th St area, just a few miles from your wife's grandparents.

I downloaded 117km of the women's road race earlier and I'm about to sit down and watch it. I only caught the final 15km or so this morning.

Stupid crit at 4:30. Of course, that means I miss the Early Bird Special at Denny's. I guess it was worth it though, because I hit the podium in third again. Baby steps. The Grand Slam will have to wait.

The new Olympic sports are dumb.

Discuss.

I might be able to do it again, somewhere further on down the road. I lost all of last year to a series of injuries, and find myself seriously lacking in fitness, since my last visit to hill country in 2019. I'm also two years older, in an age group where that matters.
