Notice the pedals and paved surface. Heart rate usually in zone 2 or 3 while riding.

And the giant battery.

Do it! If you want to feel better about the cost, we can talk about the basic boat instrument package the electrician and I are putting together for LSS.

So how many bikes would that pay for?

I don't use a torque wrench for cassettes. The recommended torque is like 40 or 50 Nm which is about all my scrawny cyclist arms can muster.

Pedaling action has no effect on cassette lockrings.

Wow. I guess I should be tightening mine a bit more. I only have the one bike with a cassette. The rest are freewheels. Thanks for that tip.

Just need a longer wrench. I have no problem getting to 110 NM on car wheels with my long one.

I have strong legs and a good understanding of leverage. Helps compensate for my bike weenie arms.

I'm curious about the torque wrench. Won't the pedaling action tighten it beyond the torque specs?

It might if it had a screw on small cog. The lock ring will not tighten when riding. Sometimes they come loose, though.

I rode this one on Sunday. No battery.

Can you ride that during the challenge?

Thanks. I'm stuck in freewheel land. I'll take it off tomorrow morning and tighten it up.

I know, they really should stretch the fall ball season. There's no reason we couldn't have 12 months of baseball in Phoenix.

8 months of baseball is still pretty good though.

How many ugga duggas is that? That's the sound of an impact gun, according to a mechanic forum I read.

Sure. But I mainly ride that one on the canal trail. Gravel.

The unending season is still going, and you're talking about starting another one.

You know what else? I wish they had a Six Flags esque Meal and Beer program at the ball parks.

I'll leave this classic here.

Learning to build wheels is a way to get the wheels you want, not the wheels you need.

You know what is really hard to find? A 650b rim brake wheelset with high flange track hubs and a fixed/fixed rear. Guess what's on my track bike? ;)

Hey now! I managed to finish my undergrad BA in philosophy and I'm working in a bike shop, and my wheels and I are doing just fine...

Yeah, I was looking at the Fulcrum Racing 4's, which would cost about as much as this wheelbuilding adventure. I've got Racing 5s on the Bianchi at the moment. Eerily silent freehub, which is quite a switch from the "swarm of Murder Hornets" that was the OLD Racing 5s that they replaced.

Quiet freehubs are the best freehubs.

I can build a wheel and chew gum at the same time.
