I arrived home to find three Amazon packages in my hammock, and I hadn't yet made it to the shower before I heard the first peals of thunder. 16mm Velox rim tape, 2 rolls. 1pr Giro Bravo gloves, red. 1 pr shorts, Qualidyne. 1 Cygolite Hotshot taillight. 1 wheel marking gage--an economically priced one, with two extra wheels. Mr. Pen brand. I will pick up two more packages in Merida tomorrow, at the DHL drop-off point. I'm still awaiting a jersey, for sure, and there might be something I've forgotten. I'm going through a phase, apparently. Getting back into serious cycling after three years off.

My favorite ride is an out and back of 120 miles. 60 back is (was) typical for me. I did 154 (75 to get home) a couple of years ago. That was awesome.
I've been doing this for decades, I have learned where the food and drink stops are, the clean bathrooms, what tools to bring, to always bring an extra light system, to bring a rain jacket, to check the weather channel the night before and the morning of the ride. I learned how to change a flat in the dark at 20 degrees 50 miles away. To have a pump and an inflator too.
Learning lots of details makes for a relaxing, more fun ride. It's kind of like me riding the biggest hill I can find, then the other hills, I know I can make. etc. etc. The point is not to brag, but to say how much nicer it is when you have all the potential problems worked out before the ride. Over time I have also worked out all the comfort problems too.

Last softball game for my daughter today - the final period on the last sentence of a 10-year-long chapter of our lives. We're both still wrapping our heads around the fact that it's over. We wish the end was a little sweeter, and the team had a stronger finish in their final tournament, but there is some relief. She has been playing through fatigue and pain for weeks, and gave it every bit she could until the last out. We've both had a ton of fun, made a lot of great memories, and met a lot of wonderful people. She might play again in the future. She might not. I could see her getting into coaching. I'm thankful for having a front row seat to her amazing journey.

Maybe more than a little - for both of us. We are saying goodbye to a lifestyle that has been the dominant force in our family schedule for 10 years. While I'm very excited for the next step in her journey (University of Oregon), I'm definitely going to miss the joy of watching her play her sport, which has included competing with and against some of the best players in the country. I've been at every single one of her games (approx. 800) since she started playing the sport at 8yo, almost every team practice, countless hours of her and I working together on our own, and 10's of thousands of miles in the car together. Tons and tons of wonderful memories. From today forward, everything is different. I gotta figure out if my wife and I still like each other. After all, I'm probably going to be lurking around her house a lot more.

Went through similar feelings when my daughter graduated high school. It'll take some adjusting. But, it is kind of freeing as well. You'll still get your time with your girl through father/daughter weekends and the like. You'll still be coaching her through school strategies and then job and life strategies. It's kind of fun to shift from the parent/child relationship to adult parent/adult child relationship.

Plus, when they've all flown the coup, it'll clothing optional at your wife's house!

That's at the top of my list...which I hope to activate very soon. I also have a woodshop that I need to finish building out. I could also get back to playing music. I have things to do.

I'm enjoying the adult/adult relationship with my older daughter, for sure. Speaking of her, she's due with my first grandkid in Nov. I predict weekend afternoon naps on the couch with the aforementioned little one.

Is going clothing optional an effective way to remind one's spouse that it's also your house?

We have an only daughter with whom I was extremely close and involved. I was devastated when she went away to school, so much of my life was just over. Needless to say, my wife was pretty sad too, so we decided to take two weeks to go cruising that September, something we had never felt we could do before. It became a yearly tradition. The empty nest has its pleasures, like all of life’s phases, even if it lacks the incredible sweetness of having a daughter in the house. Enjoy the time and freedom, get to know your wife again, and be glad we’re in the era of text and video chat. Our kid graduated, spent a month at home and left the continent for seven straight years. Now she’s 3000 mi away in Seattle and has applied for a job in Norway. Fortunately, she’s generous with electronic contact.

So this odd. AMC is airing “The Return of the Jedi”, only I’m getting an audio narration feed. Same was the case for “The Empire Strikes Back”, which ended a bit ago. All of my other channels are normal.
