What BB? Is everything torqued? if you have cups with grooves that could be a problem.

Ultegra. Not torqued to spec, just honked on pretty good. It’s a modern BB with self-contained bearings.

So when you take the crankset out the bearings stay in the frame? Is the spindle smooth or does it have a step from wear? Do you turn them with your finger when you grease them? Just spitballing here.

The bearings come out with the “cups,” but, of course they are just holders with the bearing units pressed into them. I have spun, palpated, and inspected visually each time and never found anything.

My old bike has 6600 Ultegra and when it was clunking/clicking I took the crank spindle out and cleaned it and greased it and it's been quiet since then.
Wish I could be more help but it seems like you've covered the obvious. Have you thought about the mechanic's forum? Maybe rjones28 can help?

I really appreciate it. At least BBs are relatively cheap.

If the bearings (or BB as a whole) were bad, I wouldn't think that it would quiet down after pulling the crankset and re-greasing. :foo:

...but then again, creak chasing has always been frustrating and not exactly intuitive for me.

Agree the whole thing makes little sense, but at least I sort of think I have it localized.

Last year, Minneapolis made the decision to re-district the public schools, to both save money on buses and ostensibly to promote better equality and diversity within the schools. The busing I could understand, but the diversity bit stuck me as dead wrong. Like many sizable cities, our neighborhoods aren't terribly well integrated, neither in terms of race nor in terms of income, so severely limiting the transit of kids struck me as way, way less diversity.

Anyway, fast forward to today. My boy comes home and tells us that the principal stopped in to his class to congratulate them on their fundraiser that took place last week. Keep in mind that we live in a nice area... yeah, the 5th grade classes, alone, raised more than $60k last week. This is for a school with ~300 kids. Others might be thrilled with this, but I think it's ********. I know that the kids in North sure as hell didn't raise anything like that, not for the entire school. So much for equality and diversity.

I can't say I've ever seen a Nigerian Letter scam pretending to be US officials.

Yes. It's absolutely somewhere on the bike.

I remember having a creak that the LBS traced to aluminum seatpost clamp and titanium rails. Applied some goo and the creaking went away.

I get so used to bikes making some noise or other that riding Deadman yesterday was eerily quiet. The only sounds were wheels on pavement, my breathing, and of course my tinnitus.

Did they sell coupon books?

I have no sway over what Strava does. If I did, they wouldn't have killed Fly-Bys.

They ran around in circles. Literally. My son did 63 laps or something like that.

Interesting that Janet Louise Yellen's introduction in her email mirrors wikipedia.

The main way schools here raise money is selling coupon books for $10.

We did that and candy bars (World's Finest!) when I was a kid, but I would guess that a lot of the people donating wouldn't want a coupon book, anyway.

I remember as a yute mowing lawns in Oregon we mowed lawns rain or shine, as long as the lawns didn't get super muddy.
