Road signs on your commute

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...46e4d3239.jpeg
A while back I started a thread with a photo of an adopt-a-road sign with the suggestion others do the same but I think it was sort of a dud because you all were avoiding the topic of the sponsor. At any rate it never took off and I was kind of sad since I wanted to see who had adopted your road. Here’s another try, and more generic. I spotted this today. Share your interesting, funny, odd or defaced road signs along your commute!

I wish I had a photo but they have fixed the sign...

But for years there was a low bridge near my house with a sign that said "CAUTION LOW CLEARANCE"

The funny part is that the bottom of the sign was all torn up from trucks continually hitting it.

Irony.

Kind of like this?

Fun fact, those are all the same driver.

I like the ones who drive up to it really slowly like they're trying to see if it's going to work.

I ride by this sign every morning. What this intersection really needs is a sign that says "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here"... What a mess!

(and yeah, Dorchester Street and Dorchester Avenue are totally different major roads... Welcome to Boston!)

I'll take Southhampton St. I don't know where it goes, but it avoids the rest of that nonsense so it's good with me!

In all honesty, I don't "commute" anymore, I just go places and come back home (retired).

There's a condo complex I go by when I walk to work with a bunch of signs on 1 post. There's one that says "no parking, tow zone" and another that says parked cars need a permit from them. Can I park there or not?

madpogue 01-09-19 12:56 AM

^^^^^ You need a permit to tow a car there, maybe? Fah, who knows, <<accent=Ditka>>It's Chicago!<</accent>>

Not exactly on my commute, and not my pic (lazy; bing maps screen-shot), but just off the southwest commuter path, there's:

Re. street names, they make no effing sense here either, at least wrt. the street _type_. Forget about Streets going E-W and Avenues going N-S (or vice-versa). There are Streets, Avenues, Boulevards, Drives, Trails, Places, etc. with no rhyme or reason as to what constitutes each. There's a Franklin Ave and Franklin St, both going N-S, but in different parts of town. Same with Center St - Center Ave.

In true BF tradition, this is neither a road sign nor is it on my commute... Seen in S. Lake Tahoe.

I had to stop and take a picture of this car.

I hereby rule bumper stickers allowable. Just let it be your own photo from your ride and not something you saw on Twitstagram

curbtender 01-09-19 03:03 PM

No picture, but was past and almost right hooked by a car. The rear window had a huge lettered "Courtesy Vehicle"...

This isn't on my commute. It's at Newark Airport. What a dismal place. Imagine being lost in the labyrinth of airport roads and coming upon a sign that merely asks, "Are you lost?" And then offering no information. How can I forget this?

Also, this intersection is on a route I used to commute on. There are many photos of these signs on the interwebz.

I am not equipped with a flat thing to capture photos on the go, but there's some pre-construction spray paint in a bike line I pass every evening that says "START TAPE" but because of sloppy handwriting I always read it as "SHART TAPE"

Not my commute, but ran across this cycling back roads in Maine. I thought it perfectly captured the Mainer spirit...

This was in downtown Portland, not normally on my commute.

Ah, I have to go look for the picture I took up by the rink...

Wow, Portland has a sense of humor!

Especially since we don't have any reptiles larger than water dogs around here.

Hellbenders? Never heard of them until now, though they're amphibians. Cool.

Actually, what we had called water dogs I think is actually a "rough skinned newt". But, probably derived from the same term.

I didn't realize they were toxic. I'm sure I've handled them from time to time and lived to survive another day. But, I suppose one should scratch them from a survival food list. :P
