You know you are slowing down when...

You know you are slowing down in your old age, when on a hill, an old guy in a walker yells ------------- on your left!!!!!!!!!! :)

Been there, done that - on both sides of the walker! :)

This thread offers soooooo many opportunities. But, is it worth the price of a one week suspension?

Pratt 07-09-21 10:50 AM

Not as good as I once was,
Not even as good once as I ever was

We figured he was slow, just didn't know how slow. Now we know....:50:

Don't feel sad.... I wanted to say it too!

A couple of years ago while climbing the Col de Pailheres in France a couple of sheep passed and dropped me

I have guys on mountain bikes pass me.

SoSmellyAir 07-09-21 02:05 PM

When I first started riding my road bike a few years ago, an older skinny gentleman wearing a wife beater and flip flops and riding what looked like a steel road bike passed me when we were both barely going uphill on the first main road out of my house. I am a little stronger now, but recently on a hot day a younger guy on a hybrid passed me on one of the steeper climbs in my area. Neither as epic as getting passed by LarrySellerz on his hybrid with homemade aerobars:

When Ma and Pa Kettle shout out "on your left". (sorry if this is lost on some!)

Koyote 07-09-21 02:50 PM

Many years ago, in a long road race, I got in a three-man breakaway in the Cat 4 group. As we were riding our guts out, opening a gap on the main pack, the lead group from a much faster Cat went past us in a smooth paceline, with their deep section aero wheels slicing through the air with a smooth humming sound.

One of the guys I was with looked over at them and said, “So that’s what it looks like.“

During lunch I composed such a response then exercised restraint.

I rode across the US 22 years ago. The overall strongest person in our group of 13 was 60. He rode a full suspension MTB pulling a BOB trailer with heavy gear. His tent alone probably weighed 13 lbs.

Why would you want that to happen? Does having mtb'rs pass you keep your adrenaline going or is it so you can draft?

TCollen 07-09-21 03:40 PM

Several weeks ago on a multi day, 200+ mile ride with about 400 participants I passed no one. And on each day I left early, within 15 minutes of sunrise when most riders were still breaking down their tents. But it was okay because it wasn't a race.

Undershirt, sleeveless, with shoulder straps.

It's an outdated term (and one that I wouldn't use because I find it disrespectful) for a tank top.

As long as they didn't drop anything on you ... no problem.

I do that all the time when riding our Rail Trail (ORT). On a good day I even catch and pass e-bikers.

philbob57 07-09-21 07:15 PM

Does one ever think one is old? I'm about to turn 77. For the past several years, I haven't seen that as old.

Hmmm.... Maybe that's a sign....

The time to pass e-bikers is when going downhill!

That is true. Just goes to show that I am getting old.

rsbob 07-09-21 10:27 PM

When doing a hill climb on Zwift, a runner passes you.

But in my 20s as a runner, I chased down a cyclist on a 8% 2mile grade and passed them. A moment which will live in infamy.
