Disk brake noise that baffles me

I know, it is hard to describe noises on the internet but I will try. I have XTR disk brakes and they work great. My problem is when I go down a hill fast, brake hard, I hear a repetitive pinging sound that goes away after about 30 seconds. It sounds like playing cards on the spokes.

First thing I did was tighten the center lock disk down, it was loose. No changes
Second thing, was have the spokes retensioned by one of our own here on BF. No changes.

Sorry about the wind noise but this is the sound on YouTube

Stan's Crest Carbon rims, White Industries CLD hubs, 12 mm through axle. Only happens on the front, not the rear. BTW this is a road bike.

Any thoughts?

Pull out your brake pads. Are they wearing evenly across the pad--or has a lip developed at the top?

I have a similar noise with my disc brakes if I brake hard and/or long on downhills. I think the disc warps from the heat, rubs on the pads causing the noise, and then return to their original shape (and the noise goes away) after they cool off.

k I will pull them on the weekend and see. I am doubtful as they are brand new and did this on the first ride but it doesn't hurt to check. Thanks for the tip.

Someone else suggested this to me yesterday so it might be the problem. Thanks for your insight.

Yeah, the caliper alignment might look good enough on the stand, but add some warping, and hey presto. I'd try to ensure the gaps are as even as possible.

A pinging sound? you sure it's not your spokes under stress and pinging from where they connect to the hub?
