Richard Sachs Ending New Orders

Get one while you can. Richard is going to stop new orders on 08/15/08...

http://www.richardsachs.com/rsachsfaq.html

"Update: July 15, 2008

At this time, I have decided to close the order book to new clients for Richard Sachs Signature frames effective August 15, 2008. If you are currently contemplating a purchase and holding an order form, I encourage you to remit in the near future.

Please note that I will continue to accept new orders from current and previous Richard Sachs clients."

DrPete 07-16-08 06:09 PM

Smart move. Maybe people will get their frames in less than 5 years.

mattm 07-16-08 06:12 PM

if the world's ending in 2012, then ordering one now would be useless..

oh if only the mayans are wrong.

sfcrossrider 07-16-08 06:13 PM

Damn. I was hoping he would hold out a few more years. I guess he's looking towards retirement. His frames are worth the wait.

waterrockets 07-16-08 06:30 PM

Ending?

How should I feel
When you treat me like you do?

Doubtful. Those that have been on the fence will place their deposits and the queue will be even longer than the 6 years that it is now...

Indolent58 07-16-08 06:49 PM

When he's done making frames maybe he can sell the Richard Sachs brand to Bikes Direct.

<ducks :twitchy:>

6 years? I could buy the ugly lugs off his website and learn how to braze my own frame in that amount of time.

Not much appreciation there, eh Doc?

Surferbruce 07-16-08 08:25 PM

at this point, anyone ordering a sachs is just looking for the name on the tube, not there's anything wrong with that. but if you just wanted a top notch custom steel frame there's quite a few builders who could get you your custom perfection in less than a year.

mrbubbles 07-16-08 08:31 PM

I don't see the appeal, there are other skilled custom builders out there that have shorter wait time while making a steel bike to your specification.

Yes there is, it's called obsession. Without the branding, people will not buy it. It's no different from those people buying clothes who MUST have a recognizable brand logo plastered all over their clothing.

Could anyone really tell the difference when a frame is made to their same exact specification from two or more different builders?

I'm sure I could. Send me a Richard Sachs, and one of those vanilla's with the fancy dropouts. I'll let you know how the testing goes.

Sounds to me like he's trying to raise some cash.

I learned a lot faster than that :) And it's more satisfying to ride your own frame.

I see the appeal, but the wait time far outweighs my attraction to the bike.

Darn, I guess my days as the King of the Two-wheeled Brand Hoes are going to come to an end without obtaining nirvana.

I'm not sure how to feel, I think I'll eat some more chocolate and see if that cheers me up. :(

Psimet2001 07-16-08 10:09 PM

Sounds like someone is all about Richard's richard.

You're riding the wrong thing.

Only a matter of time before a daily "My Richard Sachs Experience" thread, complete with accusations of shilldom.

terry b 07-16-08 10:19 PM

Yet here you came to share that Speedvagen - you should know better.
