At this time, I have decided to close the order book to new clients for Richard Sachs Signature frames effective August 15, 2008. If you are currently contemplating a purchase and holding an order form, I encourage you to remit in the near future.

Please note that I will continue to accept new orders from current and previous Richard Sachs clients."

Smart move. Maybe people will get their frames in less than 5 years.

if the world's ending in 2012, then ordering one now would be useless..

Damn. I was hoping he would hold out a few more years. I guess he's looking towards retirement. His frames are worth the wait.

Doubtful. Those that have been on the fence will place their deposits and the queue will be even longer than the 6 years that it is now...

When he's done making frames maybe he can sell the Richard Sachs brand to Bikes Direct.

at this point, anyone ordering a sachs is just looking for the name on the tube, not there's anything wrong with that. but if you just wanted a top notch custom steel frame there's quite a few builders who could get you your custom perfection in less than a year.

I don't see the appeal, there are other skilled custom builders out there that have shorter wait time while making a steel bike to your specification.

Yes there is, it's called obsession. Without the branding, people will not buy it. It's no different from those people buying clothes who MUST have a recognizable brand logo plastered all over their clothing.

Could anyone really tell the difference when a frame is made to their same exact specification from two or more different builders?

I'm sure I could. Send me a Richard Sachs, and one of those vanilla's with the fancy dropouts. I'll let you know how the testing goes.
