That has been the standing rule in our house for just about forever and regardless of the form of travel - if you want to take it you can, but you have to carry it all.

Sounds like you're doing it right. My 16yo daughter has been repeatedly listening to a playlist of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Weezer, The Pixies, Live, and other similar 90's bands..."my" music. My 2 daughter and I will be going to the Green Day/Weezer concert next month. They're as excited about it as I am.

Oh - here's my addiction catch-up 1 ride awesome vacation that included a water park, a zoo, a museum in the Adirondacks, a farm tour at my in-laws that included a go through of the hay loft to look at my FIL's collection of old tools (he's got proprietary wrenches dating back to Model Ts and a whole bunch of train wrenches) and a trip to Lake Ontario that was fantastic. Sucked to go back to work today, luckily I have another brief stretch off later in the month. |

3 of us did a 5 day tour once and one friend who was very strong carried extra stuff to bring his bike up close to 100 pounds. He had an espresso machine and a road atlas with him. The extra weight made the two of us equal at around 275 pounds, total. The longest day had us on the road for 11 h.
Also, heavy.

Our rule for travel is that it all has to fit in a carry on if we're flying. We've become exceptional packers. Last year when the wife and I traveled to Austin right before the pandemic hit in full swing we packed 8 days worth of clothes, running gear, extra shoes etc all in one carry on for each of us.

Discuss. Sorry I didn't bring it to our meet up at an undisclosed location. I'm sure you were disappointed. |

I toured around Oregon with my ex wife. It was her first trip beyond an overnighter. She wanted to bring all sorts of stuff, like a hair dryer. I kept reminding her she could bring whatever she wanted as long as she was willing to carry it. When she understood I wasn't going to carry it for her, the load got lighter.
I was actually disciplined when it came to packing "luxuries." And because there were twelve of us, we split up the group cooking gear. My "anchor" was all the medium format film camera equipment I brought, including three lenses and a power winder, which had 5 AA batteries itself. Also had a 35mm camera with one lens. Don't regret it at all, especially since I never had to walk a hill. |
The Olympics would be very different if they adopted the sporting attire of ancient Greece.
Especially the WINTER Olympics. |
I heard a rumor that shark jumping is going to debut at the 2024 games.

One reason Mrs. GeneJockey LOVES her old Sienna is that it negates any need to make decisions in packing for road trips. She went to a friend's cabin for an overnight with her gal pals, and in addition to a large suitcase, also took at least 2 boxes and a big tote bag.

Heh. My first tour was across the country Seattle to Bard Harbor, ME. Went with a small group with a leader, but the trip was unsupported. One woman brought a hair dryer and a Watchman TV. They got mailed home at the start of the third day, which was a couple of days before we crossed the North Cascades Higway.

Soft shell crabs and corn to grill for dinner.
