The one I miss the most is my Maico, well, except for the whole breaking down part. More power than I could use, but get it pointed into some open area and crack that 1/8 turn throttle and you better be holding on and sitting forward. Quite the rush.

Is that a 2-stroke? 500cc 2-strokes are complete insanity.

You have a "want" problem, not a "need" problem.

For sure. Just bought two more yesterday on Craigslist. Went to buy one and he had another nice one for sale.

Yep. All the dirt bikes I had were 2-strokes. My friend had a KX-500 water cooled 2-stroke. That thing was ridiculous, but predictable. You don't want to be behind it when it starts roosting. I had a YZ 490 which was mellow in comparison, even compared to the Maico.
I rode a friend's CR500 Honda and it scared me. Too unpredictable and twitchy. Fine for top pros but not for me. Lucky I didn't crash it.

I personally prefer quality beasts.

When my track car sells, I am considering getting a 2-stroke. A TE150i. :D

That was my experience, too. For my retro build project, the only thing I didn't buy was the headset. Stem, bars, and crankset I bought twice. I should probably sell the first stuff, but I'm lazy. I think I ended up spending close to $1k for all my parts, decals, and bits.

Yeah. I even looked at some of the groupsets on Ebay, ones that were probably take-offs, and they don't generally include wheelsets, or cables, or seatposts, stems, and bars. Or tires.

When I picked up the Ironman, he also had a Serotta Ti bike, also too big for him. The problem was, he wants $1500 for that, which is 5x what I paid for the Centurion.

OTOH, that may have been what Mrs. GeneJockey thought I was paying, so maybe I should have!

Did you race Supermotard on your Husky? I always thought that looked like fun.

I'll bet a TE150i is fast enough to have fun on, especially if you're light. A friend raced 125s in MX and desert and when he came to our rides it was crazy trying to follow him through the dez. He was light and he could turn that thing on a dime and I would be braking and downshifting and trying to get pointed in the direction he was going and the next thing I knew he would turn again. Lots of fun!

Yep. I had my project to a point where it looked like it was close to done, until I realized that the list of stuff I still needed was about as long as the stuff I already had.

Unfortunately, they didn't have cans of Coke at my pitstop, so I had to make do with Pepsi. :twitchy:

I know it's been explained to me, but I'm not sure I even know what the 41 is.

I can be dense at times.

In any event, I'll pass on the dare. I see the saddle thread has gone all french showerery.

The 41 is the road forum, where many threads go all French showery. There used to be a "41" in the url.

For all non-Dougs, does that mean the sky's the limit?

The 41 is the road cycling forum. All the forums used to have numbers in their URL or whatever you call the web address.
