HRV is a great measure of sympathetic and, particularly, parasympathetic activity and is actually pretty good at predicting things like mortality in heart disease and maybe in the general population. It is also very useful for monitoring your training status and overall level of stress. I do it every morning. Problem is, no matter what anyone tells you, you can't get reliable data with an optical system.

In general, the higher your HRV, the healthier (and younger) you are. However, HRV is always greater the slower the HR, so there's a confound there. Unfortunately, no app I've seen controls for rate.

Yes, but make sure you do it at the same time of and under similar circumstances. I do it lying supine right after a take a dump each morning, i.e., after 1.5 mouthfuls of coffee or sooner.

In the old man bike department, the last of the grail pieces showed up in the for sale thread over in C&V, at an affordable price. Quite possibly the last bit of (non-consumable) bike componentry I ever buy. The wheel stand should be finished later today.

You must have crazy strong coffee. Mine usually takes 45 minutes and the full cup. And it’s not weak.

We have a couple nice stands of bamboo on our other property, and are getting ready to transplant some over here. So, as a bamboo farmer, I approve. I approve anyway. Bling schmling.

Lol, more like impossible for at least the next decade for me. I will say, though, that while my taste in bikes is decidedly more old-school (again, probably due to the budgetary constraints), I was in my local LBS a few months ago and they had what turned out to be one of the latest Addict models for sale. I liked the clean lines and the muted branding, but the Addict 10 on the floor had tan sidewall tires and a tan saddle:

Exploring on the website, the green Addict 10, with a different saddle and black tires would be pretty snazzy. I'm still daydreaming, but at least a little closer to reality with this one. Maybe, maybe, maybe if I drop some more weight with the bikes I have now.

Likely. I have a short memory. Hopefully it sticks this time. I do feel like I have more control now. Maybe I said it in respect to framesets. I have negative interest in another frameset.

They will not remain shiny under my tutelage. Their reputation for smoothness is what pulled the trigger. Nothing else. They will likely go onto a $300 frameset. The nicest set of rims I have yet unlaced are tubular. Likely a match there. Then we'll be back to the spoke conundrum, though I think I found a place that will custom cut and thread them if need be. The other glitch, of course, is that they will be shipped to my daughter's house. My wife plans to go north in August; I don't have plans to go at all.
