The crappy rental house we had before the one we're in now was quiet. There was little insulation, single pane windows, and air leaks throughout, but there were never parties nearby and never fireworks or loud music. I lived there for 16 years and never had trouble going to sleep because of noise. I hated to leave there.

Poke thru is an undesirable risk!

Its not just the noise. The volume builders build them and move them as fast as they can. They are usually built to the minimum required building standards, cutting expense at every corner. Itís little wonder that most of those neighborhood look like crap within ten years.

One thing I could never understand is why do the volume built hoods always end up with a lot of cars parked outside and very few in the garage?

I donít mean to pick on your home, but I would never buy a house built by the big national builders. Thatís coming from a long time construction lawyer.

Do you talk about bikes at the meeting?

Sometimes . Mostly schedules, what other rides we are doing, how training is or isn't going, work family etc.

I think I've got lplo

Oh no worries, you're not giving me buyer's remorse. Moving.

As for the cars, yeah, it drives me nuts. If I had my druthers I'd have every car that lives at a house and isn't parked in the garage towed. Especially when they park them across the sidewalk. That's a huge part of why we run on the road instead of the sidewalk...

Nobody here parks in the garage. Here, they serve the purpose that attics used to, or basements. Or family rooms. Oh, you'll occasionally find an old car in them. Or in my case, 10 bikes and a pain cave.

big john 04-14-22 06:21 PM

Some houses here don't have garages, some have a tiny garage. My rental has a big garage behind the house but it would be a giant pain to get my car back there.

The lots here are about 40' wide so there is room for one car plus the width of the driveway. Neighbor next door has 5 cars, next house has 6. Across the street has at least 6. Parking around here gets tough. If Mrs John goes out in her car someone will swoop on her spot sometimes.

There are no sidewalks in this neighborhood.

Mojo31 04-14-22 06:22 PM

I’m referring to 3, 4, 5,000 sq. ft. house neighborhood with at least 2 and often 3 car garages. How much crap can you store in them?

I hate this place.

Dual shower and all?

The shower is nice. I'd give it up for some peace and quiet though, easily. And at least double the space.

Mojo31 04-14-22 06:34 PM

I often wish for a double shower.

Bah Humbug 04-14-22 06:38 PM

I'm actually surprised at the number of nice houses with the mostly-unused crappy jet tub and a little phone booth shower instead of a nice glorious shower that people actually use every day.

Now you are describing our bath. Wife uses the tub, but no the jets.

We debate remodeling it, but maybe after the wedding.

Some people can fill them up. Mrs John would take a shot at it.

Hey bampilot06, question about the biz:

The last few times I've been mowing at the church I spotted jets flying nearly overhead. That used to be rare.

What changed with the routing in and out of TYS, and why?

I talked to ATC about ways to annoy you. They asked for your location and now vector the jets that way. I am glad itís working.

bampilot06 04-14-22 08:04 PM

In all seriousness, I have know idea. I just checked runway closures and Instrument approach changes and donít see anything . Maybe new noise as abatement procedures are in place? Enough people close to an airport complain about noise they start making the aircraft fly over new areas.
