What I need most is mildly stimulating visuals to accompany music or voice material and Rouvy provides that at a bargain price, since my wife and I can share a subscription. I also find the Zwift visuals depressingly bad. Rouvy uses video and the routes are pretty cool.

I have used Zwift in the off season when roads are not safe. So typically I would do 1-2 rides/week November through March, and generally do group rides with people I know. We chat with each other via discord and agree on a course or do a meet-up. So for me, it's the social aspect I like the most. I am not very motivated to do a solo workout, even if I start out with intentions to do it, I get bored and bail out early. On the group Zwift rides, I am typically able to do a full 2 hour ride and not get too bored.

According to the map, it appears that Florida is getting pummeled. Thanking my lucky stars.

WOW! That's a pretty great brush with greatness!

She and I got into a HUGE argument about which film school to go to, I really wanted her to go to Temple because it's local and also 100% full scholarship.

Heidi told me I do not understand this industry, and it's all about contacts. She insisted the contacts she would make through USC's film school were far and away better than what she would get at Temple and even at Tisch/NYU (which was also on her short list).

Maybe the kid had a point.

I have used Rouvy in the past and the worst part for me was when it changed slope, it took way to much power before actually settling to what it should be. Hopefully they have addressed that. But the videos were good.
Another one I've used is Velo Reality Generally good video, good courses and connects to smart trainers. No ability to do workouts that I recall though. And I think its a solo developer, so don't count on much support.
Road Grand Tours is another Zwift competitor and looks like they have been integrated into the Wahoo X world.

I didnít set the bar too high this week, I wonder who will knock me off?

In Ritchey news, some significant happenings. On yesterdays ride, out of no weíre it would shift to the big ring. The front derailer would shift, but it wasnít enough to move the chain to the big ring. I tried adjusting the High but all I managed to do was make the chain rub on the little ring. Will have to play with that more.

I also removed the tape. Yíall successfully made me self conscious about my brake cable routing so Iím going to fix that. I also move the hoods down about 7 degrees and then tilted them inward significantly. I was finding the hoods to be uncomfortable at the height they were at, and I plan on tilting all my hoods in. The way I ride with my forearms parrallel to the ground it causes me to tilt my wrist back when I am on the hoods. Still have to test ride it to make sure I like it, I might have to bring them back up a degree or two.

Funny, I had my LBS wrap my other two bikes in the past and both times I asked them to tilt the hoods in, and both times they barely had any angle. They thought I was nuts, but it makes sense to me.

I use the trainer mainly in ergometer mode, so I don't need realistic dynamics.

California has a tremendous pull on kids from the east. Granted the times were somewhat different, but at 15 I was dying to go out there. I finally made it at twenty, and spent the next ten years there.

If I could afford to live here after retirement, I'd never leave.

Nice. It's been a while since I've done better than 3/6. 5/6 today.

Heard from my sister in Sarasota this morning. All's well. One small tree/shrub ruined, another salvageable. House totally intact, no flooding. Compared to, say, Fort Myers, they did well. But really, it's like a crap shoot there. We had a discussion once among the siblings. Some said they couldn't stand the possibility of earthquakes, but hurricanes would bother me more. A really big earthquake and you're generally good for years. Hurricanes? They happen every year and there's nothing stopping the one that damages your home this year from being followed by another than destroys it the next. Hawaii? Typhoons and volcanoes. New Mexico? Drought, wildfires, and maybe extreme heat. Virginia Beach? Hurricanes, hurricane remnants, and general flooding. You choose your disaster.

Really? I have not found that to be the case in my observations, other than my first love who obviously sought to get away from me as far as she could.

Not so much when you set it up to keep you around LT1 for a couple of hours while you listen to a great novel and watch scenery, which is what I plan to do a lot of this winter when I can't get outside. I also find it hard to hold a steady power level for intervals. With the erg, I can set it and forget it and know I got the workout I planned.

The school moved to Grasslands in Westchester in the 70s and the hospital became a chronic care facility, and then an AIDS hospital, before closing.

Probably so. I have bad memories of death spiral on erg mode doing some stupid structured workouts that ended up in misery.

Accurate metrics and facing the sad truth about pathetic puniness go a long way toward preventing the death spiral. They also make you faster.

I was certain I would be moving within a few months of retirement yet it's been 3.5 years. The way rents have gone up what we have is a steal, but it's still too much.
Tried to talk her into moving to the mountains but she nixed that idea. Now those places have gone way up.

My friends are here, I can always find someone to ride with, I'm close to everything and I can ride year 'round. It's too expensive and too hot but I am able to break even every month, so....
