I know some local guys that SS gravel. Local cyclocross races run single speed categories. And I know at least one guy that mountain bikes on a single speed.

The powerplant in this is likely more reliable than that 12 cylinder boat anchor they pulled out.

I wussed out of the available group rides today and drove to the corner of the valley so I could ride in the less trafficy areas of Ventura County. I saw a lot of other riders and it was near perfect weather. I started from a place where a lot of riders start rides and I found myself warming up with a group of 5 other riders who were going the same direction as I was. They were friendly and invited me to ride with them. They seemed to be keeping a decent pace despite one of them being on a full suspension mountain bike, another with a huge backpack and elbow pads, and another on a bike he had added an electric motor to which he said had "changed his life".
I try to never underestimate anyone and there was a pro mtb racer who used to come on our short Sunday club rides with his race bike so I know it can be done but once the first bigger hill came they vanished. I kept thinking they would catch back up but I didn't see them again. I did see a friend who took some pictures of a nice valley. Lake Sherwood is out there with the country club and golf course where the PGA has an event. People who live out there have serious money. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...aea9271cb9.jpg It's a beautiful valley. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb53a4c37d.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5fd3767f9a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c95e2bbf3a.jpg |
