Anyone interested in a quantity of old Raleigh Dawn Tourists of various vintage, and some of what I think are Pashley 'Post Office' bikes, they have threaded lugs near the top tube which I assume were meant to hold a basket? There are also loads of old parts.
They are all in disrepair and would fill a large van.
My friend would like a few quid for them and they are based in his recently renovated North London shop.

Yup. I feel its underpriced. It will give the Raleigh Superbe a run for the money, considering the quality of the steel and the alloy wheels. Vintage 3 speeds are famous for being all-steel bicycles! :)

I just had an email back from the only retailer in Canada (British Columbia) who tells me that the bike is around 30 lbs. They sell it for $499. Cdn. but it would cost $200 to ship to me in Ontario. Maybe I'll stick to my Raleigh 3 speeds although it would be nice to have one of these.

Figured id show these. at the end of the year last year this rown superbe was listed for free online. I missed it by one person. person who got it was someone I knew. they wanted it for the back wheel. I gave them one and I got bike. did much work to it. this is it. it has vintage mudflaps now also. Green rack is because it didnt have one when i got it. and its hard to find brown ones. also was missing chainguard. this one may have had a chaincase. it has the frame mounts for it.

Most recent find is this raleigh Twenty shopper. most of it is there, I like the rear 3 speed dyno. its the second one I have now. anyone know what the headlight should look like? im guessing it sticks out and it got smashed.

Beautiful! The fulcrum lug brazed at the seat tube puts in the late 40s to late 50s. My 54 Triumph has an inflator like that one.

Oh man! I restored a Raleigh Sports in days gone by. This thread makes me very nostalgic.

In my home town, I would often find English 3 speeds in fair condition at the dump. I've pulled several that didn't need much more than new cabling.

Must visit home...

Very sharp observation on the age. This one is actually a 1958. I rebuilt the rear wheel with a 1956 FW four speed because the original SW would not stay in gear.

A local fellow sent me an email today concerning a 1978 Raleigh Superbe that he has had sitting in his garage for the past decade... the bike looks to be in fabulous shape and looks to have a 23 inch frame.

He wants to find it a good home.

Looking for a decent pulley mount for the braze on fitting - ebay has a couple but $30+ seems excessive....

thinking of selling my 75 Coffee colored raleigh sports to raise funds for my 67 DL-1 build.. ive figured that the parts i need are around 150, so i was thinking i should liquidate one 3 speed for the other.. is that sacrelig ? i don't ride my sports enough to warrant 2 3 speeds, and honestly why have a buick when you own a cadilac? thoughts?

Are the DLs the Cadillac version? I thought they were the ones that didn't stop :)

I put Sun CR-18s on my Superbe along with new brake pads and stopping really isn't an issue.

honestly the stopping isn't that big of an issue, steel rims are steel rims, im going to put kool stops on the DL-1 once its done.. i had a 73 dl1 and the stopping was comparable to my sports..

The issue is steel and wheel alignment. Steel just does not brake as well as aluminum; that compounded with out-of-round issues puts the rod-brake machines at a disadvantage. If your wheels are really round and both machines have steel, then I would expect braking to be similar as you experienced.

Those Kool-Stops really help. I tried a set of NOS John Bull brake pads and they really were just too hard (even though they seemed OK)- kinda scary!

when i had my last dl1 the ride quality was more enjoyable then the sports, maybe it was the b66 that was on the dl1, and a the time i had a brooks mattress saddle on the sports.. for whatever reason the dl1 just felt better, the big rake on the fork on the dl1 one and the relaxed angles just feels elegant...

Now you can get alloy rims in the 635 mm size. They make them for the Pashley Guvnor. I imagine alloy rims would lop quite a bit of weight from a DL-1 as well as provide better braking when one upgrades from the rod-pull lever brakes to drum brakes.
