Video from the Madison Wisconsin Bike swap. Nice haul

Hey guys,
Wonder what a $1000 bucks gets you at a swap. My buddy Cyril and I had a lot of fun. Check out the vid.

That Jack Taylor tandem was pretty sweet! I hope it found a good home!

p.s. I'm amazed that the C'dale with Sante went for so little money. Nobody else wants Sante?

Bianchigirll 01-28-23 05:34 AM

Great video thanks for taking us along. The Sante' Cannondale would have been hard to pass up

That saddle would go with my Batavus. The Colts are nice saddles but mine creaks a bit for some reason

not really just tightening ITV’s but then loosening a bit. It’s not something really bugs me

BTW- I seem to recall reading that the 1984 Trek 420 was the only mixte that Trek ever put into production.

rccardr 01-29-23 01:46 PM

Pretty sure you are correct. Mrs. Doc’s 420 mixte is the only one I’ve ever seen in person.
Nicely made, too.

The three hundred and Five hundred series bicycles didn't come in a "womans" frame. So you're probably correct.

Jjhabbs: This build with the Sante group looks like the minty builds you do. Definitely unique with the white contrast.

I've never owned a Sante' equipped bike. While I thought the parts looked good, I imagined that they would not survive the usual wear and tear very well.
Can anyone comment on this? Are they better suited to a wall-hanger than a bike that gets used?

Every Sante part that I've seen in person looked a bit haggered with chips to the finish even though they probably still functioned just fine. Based on that, I've always assumed like you that if they are actually used they are hard to keep looking nice.

Nice video. It's been years since I've been to the Madison Bike Swap and even longer since I yakked with Lon.

Sorry I missed the show this year, but glad I clicked on your video….. I just subbed cool stuff for sure.

Fah, thanks for the reminder of how much I MISSED, being mostly chained to my table. I woulda arm-wrestled you (and lost, most likely) for the Park dropout alignment tool.

I definitely saw Cyril somewhere; maybe he stopped by my table. Unless there was someone else there with three like-new red Cannondale bags.....

Hey, Great looking bike. Did you buy that bicycle from me? I picked that frameset out of a barn!

Hi Steve,
The group came out and was supposed to be a fancy Ultegra group. The parts hold up just fine and are durable. However the finish would get destroyed for the average racer. It was meant to be on sport bikes that enthusiasts would ride but with a "luxury" feel. At the shop I worked at we called it the Answer to a question nobody asked! LOL.. Sold a few bikes with it.

Agreed; my one Sante bike, I would be just as happy with Ultegra. Or perhaps happier. Mine will never look as good as the gruppo shown in the video. And they actually made one functional sacrifice, taking away the nice cam-style caliper-mounted brake releases and opting for the cheapo pushbutton releases on the levers. Otherwise, they're just an occasional (and very short) conversation-starter.
