Why is "event cancellation insurance" a thing? If they cancel the event, they should refund the money.

Cleaning up the aftermath. Still waiting for power though we hear music close by. Our solar system has a feature that allows us to plug one extension cord into the inverter, when there is no power from the grid. We used it to charge out phones this morning. Priorities. But digital appliances don't like extension cords anyway. We'll likely plug in our old school fridge in a bit.

And holding athletic events of any sort is not the big moneymaker some people seem to think it is.

I mean I'm privileged that I can afford to lose $70 but still... I'm not sure what I was thinking when I declined the option in the first place. |

Because most events are not pure profit and the organizers have generally spent a lot of the money already on things they can't get refunded if they cancel. Remember that scene in "It's A Wonderful Life", where George Bailey explains that the Building And Loan doesn't keep all their deposits in a big safe? It's like that.

All of this and more: Given the part of the country I live in and the general attitude of people around here, they are highly unlikely to cancel the event. I, however, am being far more cautious so I will not attend. Insurance would've allowed me to recoup a least some of the entry fee.

Velo Vol can vouch that I'm dapper...and much too fat for this sport which I don't participate in.

If you decide not to go that's on you. You want insured from yourself. Bolded part only. |

And if you're responsible for the awesome weather we had this week you can come back any time. |
Rolling over registration also doesn’t really solve it. For a 5k or charity ride, sure. For a marathon or Ironman, you’re likely structuring a year or most of one around it. You can’t automatically just build and peak again the next year.
