Not so sure about that. My dad was always up and out of the house like that due to his job. I can't get going that early, nor am I fast.

It's our 50th wedding anniversary. Going to celebrate with a bike ride.

Possibly. The group that we are riding with this AM will probably go 40 so we could just tack a few miles on.

this thing, but I don’t think this is correct either. Close but still not right.

The one phrantic linked. I don't have that, I just use needle nose pliers and pull them into the plastic thing. It shouldn't be very tight, you might be able to unscrew it with your fingers.

There’s also a cheapie plastic one shimano makes

bampilot06 07-17-21 07:49 AM

today was so nasty and I can some it up with a quick experience.

Stopped to check a street sign. In the 2 seconds I stopped, a bead of sweat dripped from my head down my neck, down my spine, right between my two cheeks.

forever unclean.

That's really the way to go, pretty rare to find one of those bolts you can't get out with the el cheepo
https://cambriabike.com/products/shi...gaAmwQEALw_wcB

(Actually I had more than there should have been come into the shop that couldn't be undone with the plastic one and vice grips, but never on my personal bikes.

That's the worst. The weather is like that here today, so I popped in to the sbux for some AC. Maybe I'll do a serious cyclist ride tomorrow...

I had planned on a metric but the humidity and heat zapped me.

The Park BBT-9 includes the adjustment tool.

I saw that, did a search of inventory of the two LBS, no such luck. Prefer to get the correct tool but do all else fails will just do it big john’s way.

Used to use those at Performance.

For home use I scored one of these on blowout for $3, IIRC. I like that the plastic dealio is oven knob style, so easier to grip.

I like my Wheels Mfg BB wrenches, but their Shimano Preload Tool might be a little over-the-top.

Shimano Preload Tool (wheelsmfg.com)

No such thing as over the top, they should make an extra premium model with built-in torque clicker :)

I prolly will not want to do it myself.

Do I put grease on both top and bottom? Should I clean the bearings before adding grease? Silly questions, but have yet to mess with it.

I generally wipe everything clean and pack grease everywhere. In the head tube, inside and out of the bearings, races, steer tube etc. Once its reassembled I wipe off excess. Grease keeps sweat and water from entering and lubes things obviously. More won't hurt.
