Year End Stats

I haven’t totaled my cycling numbers and probably won’t even do it this year. I really wasn’t riding for any numbers this year. Regardless I had a lot of great days on the bike riding both solo and with groups. I might not be riding as often but I still look forward to getting out regularly.

But looking back on my other hobby.

Last round of golf in the books for 2021 at Rocky River Golf Club today. I Enjoyed a solid even par round of 72 with 3 birdies and 3 bogeys. I even birdied holes #5 & #11 which have been the two hardest holes for me while playing playing there. The warmer temperatures this week definitely helped the scores.

Looking back this year.

Approximately 200 rounds played this year.
200 rounds x 7 miles/round = 1400 miles walked
200 rounds x 76 shots/round = 15,200 strokes
200 rounds x 25 practice balls/round = 5000 additional strokes
$1500/200 rounds = $7.50 per round

Balls Found >> Balls Lost!!

No wonder the soles came off a pair of my golf shoes recently.

I’ve been playing there for 5 1/2 years since I retired. So multiply those numbers by 5 for another perspective. The course is challenging enough to where it doesn’t get boring playing it repeatedly. We play Monday-Friday and are the first groups to start every day.

I haven’t bought golf balls, tees or other equipment while playing there. I find more golf balls than I can use along with golf tees. I have bought a couple pairs of shoes and generally get about 2 years out of a pair before they’re trash.

I've been busy.

Not a golfer, but I do ride through Bethpage Black and there's a bench and water tap at the 15th hole.

Not a golfer but had a good year cycling and topped last years numbers. These are nothing compared to you gents who are men of leisure, but getting in short rides before or after the work day was a treat for me and then longer rides on the weekend. The end of the year petered out for me as I got busy with yard work and then my bike trainer died on me at the beginning of Dec. and didn't get it replaced until just a few weeks ago.

According to Strava:
194 hours
4,165.2 KMs
429 personal records
199 activities (included hikes, X country skiing and ice hockey)

No golf or other non-cycling numbers here. Or virtual miles.
Basic 2021 Stats: I rode on 295 days for a total of 4028 non-virtual miles. Quite satisfied with my biking activity. Probably would have ridden more if spouse and I didn't care for 2 toddler grandsons 3 days every week. (Rode 5,300 miles in 2019 when I was newly retired and did not yet have any grandchildren.)

Lots of low-mileage rides, some of which were 2-3 miles towing 50 pounds of grandsons in a trailer around the neighborhood. Grandma ******* us on her e-assist Trek.

Per Strava. This includes walking, running, hiking, and skiing, but 90% of the mileage is on a bike.

I golf a handful of times a year, mostly to keep my mom company. It’s a nice pastime that you can enjoy with the elderly. I expect I will take it up more often when I get too old to do anything strenuous.

Embarrassingly less mileage than I've ever done. So I'd rather not say. I did however ride my bike to 14,130'https://ridewithgps.com/photos/11517470/large.jpg

Thinking about doing Mt Evans again this summer (2022) and Pikes Peak too.

Yeah, you don't have to tell me I need to zip up my jersey when getting photos made. Probably why they never ask me to ride as a pro! (yeah in my dreams)

6,280 miles for the year. All on a bike, outdoors, "real" road miles. Not bad for a pandemic year (at least ~1,000 miles more than last year) but not as high as some previous years. I get the feeling I won't break 7,000 miles/year again until I'm retired...by which point my body probably won't be able to do 7,000 miles/year! :)

Wow some of you are machines!!😳 I managed 1800 miles for 2021 and the wife got 1500 even with 2 week long hospital stays ( heart attack and very adverse reaction to a new diabetic drug!) That's the best we have done in a very long time!👍🚴😁
