Calling Specialized Aluminum experts- Tell me about an "S works SL" aluminum frame

A buddy of mine built up this bike for fun.
It is aluminum frame and Ritchey carbon fork with Ultegra group and HED wheels.
I might go try it out as backup.

Frame says S Works SL.
Cannot find anything out about this frame.
It looks like an S works E5 that are white with red letters - it just says SL on it.
Anybody have any info?

Sorry I can't post pictures yet.

Thanks!

Sorry I can't post pics yet but it looks exactly like an S works E5. He could not recall if this was before or after that model.

If it's aluminum frame, then it's probably very early 2000's. Unless it's had it's components changed out in the long time since it was new then it has what at that time period was high end stuff.

Pics you can upload to imgur.com or another hosting site and simply type the URL of it's sharing link in the text of your message. Delete the https:// from it and put a space on either side of any . or period.

Looks like you might be up against your 5 post per day limit. But maybe you can edit one of your earlier messages. Don't know. But after your next five posts you will no longer be restricted.... though it might take another day after your 10th post.

I had an early 2000s S-Works E5 aluminum frame for awhile. I got it off CL for $100 and used it as my race bike. It was a fast bike. Pretty light too. I really liked it a lot - even more so than the Caad 10 or 12.

Unfortunately, I dented it in a crash, and the dent soon cracked.

Thanks for the info and links.
It appears that maybe it was a Euro version, or Euro equipped version with a Campy group, for one year or two of the S Works E5 bike.

The couple others that I see in a Google search are different color, though like in the bluebook link.

This one near me does not have the Campy group in the Euro version, or the Dura-Ace group that the E5's had from 2002-2005.

It does have Ultegra components and the HED 9 rims.
I am going to assume that the Ritchey carbon fork is not stock either.
Also has carbon handlebars.

So it may be essentially an Alum E5 frame build up with decent parts.

How was the ride comfort for you compared to all carbon or steel/carbon frame??
I have never had an aluminum frame. Or a quality one anyway.

OK, my head is spinning after looking at a lot of Specialized bikes on CL and FB in my region.
I think I am going to look at a newer carbon build.
I have a 2010 Tarmac Expert and a 2002 LeMond Zurich right now.

Thanks for the info guys.

I thought it was a great bike. I like aluminum frames. I've only owned two full carbon road frames, One was awful. The other is fine.
