I do these rides in the drops, except for the climbs, but I only have about a 3.5" drop from the saddle to the bar top and the drop is very shallow. My back gets pretty unhappy by the end and in direct proportion to how rapidly I'm breathing. Fortunately, a quick jump out of the saddle relieves the strain. I think I hunch up and flex my spine when I'm tired, going hard, and trying to stay low, and I need to work on keeping it in extension and getting more hip flexion. I'm doing dead lifts with resistance bands these days and I really need to get back to actual weights.

I have barely a 2" drop from saddle to bar top and I use shallow bars. Yes, when it starts to hurt a few seconds of standing on the pedals helps a lot. I'm afraid to try any other treatment on it. I used to do stretching but I think I aggravated it doing too much so I stopped a while back.

Thanks, that does sound like the move. I'll start with the rougher grits and just see how it feels.

Ugh, that super sucks. The housing market in Chicago seems to be absurdly hot right now (where are people getting all this money??). People making blind offers left and right on properties they haven't even set foot in.

Hopefully there's a silver lining here in that the house you do end up in will be even better than the one you didn't get.

Thanks all. With my wife not working for the next 3-4 years it was at the absolute top of our budget, so maybe a blessing in disguise

I'll stretch my back and use a foam roller when it's injured, for pain relief, but otherwise I agree: It just puts things at risk.

I don't stretch the legs either. I did it for specific problems and injuries when I was running, but never found daily stretching helpful for performance. Everything on me is so short and tight I could barely do the stretches anyway. While some people obviously benefit, controlled studies don't indicate any good effects at the population level.

Someone’s been paying a ton of attention to my posts. ;) Seriously, how’d you put that together?

I’ll use French diacritics if they’ll help me sail back over and invade England and finish what my great-great-great- (keep going a while) -grandfather started!

Man Hamilton gets me all fired up.

I think he’s trying to say my Targêt knife is no better than an axe. :notamused:

And how did he know I owned a Targêt knife anyway?

One of my staff used to work with BoA in that building.

I can take or leave bar ends. People always say that they're basically as convenient as brifters but I don't see it. I'll keep my set of Suntour racheting ones around anyways, they don't take up much space.

I have a deep seated hatred of vintage smooth post canti brakes, especially when trying to do a 27" -> 700C conversion on a vintage touring bike with narrow posts.

My Trek has modern spacing and Tektro CR720s and they were the simplest cantis I've ever set up. Really great braking with the stock pads, too.

Can you come do mine? Mine like to glaze over every month or so :foo:

We use SwissStop disc brake silencer stray at the shop for stubborn squealers. Seems to work pretty well.

Most likely. I’ve been on that ‘too much house’ ride, not really worth it.

Basically it’s the western side of the lake, your link was the eastern side. But otherwise yes
