WTB: SunTour GT rear derailleur

Looking for a performance upgrade from the Nuovo Record + SOMA long cage on my Motobecane. Who's got a GT length SunTour rear derailleur to unload? Cyclone, V Luxe, Vx, etc... Thanks :D

I replaced the campagnolo nuovo record rear derailleur on my 1973 Motobecane Grand record with a suntour VX GT. It really improved the shifting.

Thanks for the confirmation that I'm heading in the right direction - I gotta give your build thread a thorough read through! I did actually test a bit this afternoon with a Cyclone II GT that came off my wife's Nishiki Seral - even with a terribly worn pivot bolt on that, the shifting was like night and day.

This is the build thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ld-thread.html

I have changed the bike though as I swapped out the TA crank with 46/36 rings for a Nervar 631/633 with 50/34 rings. I also changed out the wheelset from 27 inch to 700c to get fatter tires. With a 50/34 rings and a 14-28 freewheel, I had to go with a long cage RD. I decided to go with a suntour rather than a campy. I was immediately struck by how much better the shifting became. It is a pretty big difference.

Any chance I could get in line for that cyclone if mcgregorj does not want it? Thanks!

I've always liked Suntour derailleurs, they've always performed very well for me. Favorites include Superbe/Superbe Pro, Cyclone, and Vx-GT. I get the history, good looks, and romance of Campy Nuovo Record, but as Frank Berto said "the Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur shifted poorly, but was so well constructed that it would keep on shifting exactly as poorly - forever."
