seems as thought it's becoming more common place for people to be keeping what is essentially and personal bicycling blog on public forums.
i've decided to ignore them completely once i've established that that is the case. |
This is odd

Nice bike, but the Blogger's subforum might be a better place for a "me only" thread. A lot of us track total mileage in the Commuting Mileage thread, too.

I know what you mean, but I get it. It's for accountability--the idea that once you've announce it to the world then you're committed or obligated to complete it. It's not for everyone, but if that's what it takes for someone to keep on track then by all means, carry on.

Try Garmin connect it is so much easier and private ....
|
to be fair, I do "a personal thread" to see how long a UK-based BSO will last and how much money I'm saving versus the bus.
however, i'm trying to do 3 things for bike forums: 1. provide an account that a BSO can be a legitimate commuting device 2. demonstrate how much money can be saved by biking versus the bus (nevermind a car!) 3. demonstrate how long it takes to really "break even" with an expensive bike (years!) |
I track everything on a Google Doc that allows me to keep track of each bike, commute miles vs. fun miles, and a full breakdown of all parts added to each of my 3 bikes.
|
also, i disagree that it's a good looking bike. it looks like something out of Nascar with all of those "cannondale" and "10" symbols!

I just use a spreadsheet to track my commutes. |
I'd like to have a Garmin device. One of these days.
2/4/15 weather report is 54*F for the highs, 37*F for the lows next scheduled ride will be this Saturday |
BSO - Bicycle Shaped Object. Everything that comes out of places like Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

The 2015 Commuting Mileage thread would accomplish the same thing, right?
I'm not crazy about the paint job either. It's a bit too loud for my taste. But to each his own. |

There seems to be some value in your thread for others, unlike this one.
But, I will soldier on! edit: Also, my thread started out just like this one ;) |

Maybe. I enjoy it but I don't think it's had a lot of visitors in a while. Sometimes a new face pops in, but it usually doesn't get hits until I hit an interesting milestone (1 or 2 years owned or the calendar flipping.)
But, I will soldier on! edit: Also, my thread started out just like this one ;) But there's always been the talk of avoiding a BSO. Now you are showing that it can be made to work as a commuter. I suspect that the simplicity of yours circumvents a lot of the issues with geared BSOs. Maybe it's still valid to avoid those. Maybe you should get one so we can all find out. |

Why does your BSO care where you live? Are you afraid if you speak to it in a different language, it won't respond?
I know that doesn't mean I can't use it, it just means that it won't integrate into my daily life as easily. |
I don't know if anyone but the moderators can tell people what threads they can or can't start. More power to this guy if it helps him stick with it.
