Let's see you in your vintage jersey

I won a used Renault-Gitane jersey on Ebay last fall - european size 4. The goal over the winter was to lean up enough to fit into it this spring. I'm just about there, by the end of the summer it'll be perfect.
So, no pride here - let's see you in your vintage jersey. I'll start. |
ok:

Nice - I've got one of those Bianchi jersey's as well. It's really comfortable and probably my favorite.

Here are two of mine. A third will soon be in the mail. I've got some others but I'm not sure if they're vintage.

@ Otis
I manage to worm my jersey off more than likely due to the adrenaline that was still pumping in me. It's pretty trashed though. Probably should have just cut it.

lot of these jerseys look really cool, but how do you guys stand that zipper rubbing on your skin? Especially when I'm sweaty, I can't take it, my skin gets all itchy and irritated.
|
can't say I ever noticed the zippers.

Maybe it's because of the thickness of my pelt. :) |
The only time I've been aware of the zipper was on a really hot day and I had unzipped it to try and cool off a little and that @#$%%% wasp hit me, popped under the zipper and stung me on the chest. That's an adventure to stop - one hand grasping the jersey/wasp and then trying to stop and unclip without falling over.

Banesto didn't ride DeRosa, but I did not possess Pinarello back then. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...19fd44ba6d.jpg |

I've been playing around with chain stitch embroidery inspired by vintage jerseys throughout the mid 20th century. The first one is a Raxar jersey from the 70's:

this is the perfect thread for me, since I own a lot more vintage jerseys than vintage bikes! :)
Here is a shot of me in mid 70's Raleigh jersey, with my Raleigh International. I got the jersey from a friend, and the jersey is old enough to have pockets in the front in addition to the usual rear pockets. Photo credit to Mr. IAB. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f5135b62a0.jpg Here is a shot of me (on the right) in a heavy jersey with the Olmo logo, and I'm riding my 1982 Olmo Competition. The Olmo has a bunch of pantographed Campy bits, which is a lot of fun. Photo credit to Mr. IAB. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cd752f8d4a.jpg Another shot of my and my International, but wearing a wool blend T.I.-Raleigh/McGregor jersey. I'm also wearing the Raleigh cap that I bought in the 70's. https://live.staticflickr.com/7025/6...aa5eb5_c_d.jpg Once more with the International, I'm wearing a Levi's/Raleigh/SRC jersey from the mid 80's. This is an early lycra-ish fabric that almost feels like a sheet of rubber. Not bad, but not as good in hot weather as modern fabrics. The SRC was a major US team at the time and based in Ames, Iowa where I was studying engineering at the time. https://live.staticflickr.com/1528/2...b22af6_c_d.jpg A shot of me on my Raleigh Team, but wearing a repro team jersey. The modern fabric and long zipper means that it is good in hot weather https://live.staticflickr.com/3873/1...b58f4b_c_d.jpg Steve in Peoria |
I have lots of wool jerseys, but they're all modern merino wool or merino wool blend repros. Too many, in fact. But I don't think they qualify.
I also have way too many modern fabric jerseys, some repros of classic oldies but goodies. I don't think they qualify, either. Besides , the fewer photos of me in lycra and tight jerseys, the better. For everyone. |
