Additionally, some state parks are going to be opened up again and I got excited, but my local one is not on the list :(
The parks that will not be reopening on Friday are:

As of yesterday, our schools are closed for the rest of the school year and it'll be only distance learning. The kid was pretty bummed when I talked to him about it, and a little resentful, but he understands the bigger picture.
We've still got that school-issued Chromebook sitting around, so I think that I'm going to set that up for him so that he can bring it up to his room, or outside or wherever, and video chat or game or whatever with his friends. It doesn’t help that their mom does essentially zero schoolwork when they are with her and plops them in front of the TV for 2-3 hours every morning. I’m just ready for this to be over, but am resigned that we probably won’t “open” in NY for a long time. But hey, I’ve ridden more miles this year than 17,18, and 19 combined so I guess there’s a silver lining. |

Same.
My guess is it's related to how busy they typically are. My local (Rock Cut State Park) is the largest in northern IL, but with the overall increase in people using parks for recreation I guess they figure that it will get too crowded. |

That hasn’t happened here yet but I’m sure it will. I’m having a really hard time with it trying to manage work, school and the kids. My 7 year old daughter has taken to carrying around a stuffed animal and my 8 year old daughter is frustrated with “home school” and is acting depressed and cries all of the time. She misses her friends and life and doesn’t understand how this is impacting her in a way that she can express in words.
I'm hearing similar things from her, he hasn't left his house for like 6 weeks and doesn't really get why, when previously he was at school 5 days a week. His teachers told him that they can't go to school anymore because there's a "Big Germ" out there, but what else can you tell a 5 year old? Poor kid even was supposed to have a big group video call with teachers and all of his classmates. He got super excited and dressed up to look good for his friends but he was the only one that signed in to the call :( I think that eventually that day he did get to see some of his friends on a video call, but it still bummed him out. |

That's rough. My wife is taking care of a 5 year old since his preschool shut down a while ago and his parents are still working.

FaceTime with their friends when they’re here with me. Fortunately, my wife was already voluntarily not working and that’s been incredibly helpful. Their teachers finally started doing doing video conferencing via Google Meet, our district has been a little bit behind with regard to technology, but is catching up. I usually bomb around the neighborhood for a mile or two with them on their bikes every day and go for 2 mile runs with my oldest (she runs a 9:20 - not bad for an 8 year old) while the other rides her bike. At least they’re getting out of the house a bit. |

Oh, one other thing with the boy, and bike-related to boot - he's taken to riding laps in the back yard on his bike; it's kind of funny to watch. The lawn is maybe 30' x 40', so not big in terms of riding a bike, but I'm impressed with how dramatically the saddle time and tight maneuvering has improved his bike handling. He looks so much more comfortable on it now.

The boy just logged in to their first Google Meetup for his class. His teacher immediately teared up as the kids' faces popped on-screen.

People have been up at arms about their bicycle tuneups.

My service actually cut my lawn yesterday. Dodged a bullet there.

I just had a telemedicine visit with a 70 year old guy who does NOT have covid19 but he kept quizzing me on the role of hydroxychloroquine vs. convalascent plasma vs invasive ventilators in the management of COVID19.
I tried to explain to him that there is much that we don't know and that his best strategy is avoidance so we don't have to face these issues. He would not drop the subject. Oh boy. He clearly has too much time on his hands and is probably watching too much of a particular network that is popular with his demographic. Sad! |

Did you have to tell him that injecting sunlight and/or disinfectants into the body wasn't a good idea?

Plus, you're local, so the governor can pop over anytime and punch you right in the nose for any non-compliance.
Regardless, I don’t see NY “opening” until September at the earliest. |
