What does $150 buy you in Lancaster Pa on a Saturday night??

A barely ridden, 1989 Cannondale SR700!

This is pretty much as found. I added a set of brake hoods from Amazon ($16).

I got this a bike to use on my indoor trainer but now am having thoughts of using the 10 speed, Shimano 105 stuff I have on hand and giving it a go on the open road.

That bike sure has a lot of privilege; I haven't seen anything that white since Collin Quinn last had a comedy special. If hockey were a bike - that would be the bike. Needs Sante.

Moe Zhoost 11-07-22 04:10 PM

And with Suntour components. Nice score. You don't really want to try to spread that aluminum frame to fit a wider hub, do you?

krakhaus 11-07-22 04:20 PM

Damn. I'm looking to build an old Cannondale or Klein with modern gear.

squirtdad 11-07-22 04:38 PM

and I was going to say a lot of beer and pole dancing...... :D

Well, not sure about Lancaster PA. Maybe a nice Amish made table?

That looks like a time capsule! Buddy of mine had a Cannondale like that around 89-90. Looked like that except it was black. Didn’t know enough at the time to know if it was a black lightning or not. I remember “look at those gigantic tubes!” and “wow a bike made from aluminum!”.

nlerner 11-07-22 04:56 PM

Oh, yeah. Get some Sante on that rig, stat. If I had any in my bin, I’d be mailing them off to you asap.

RB1-luvr 11-07-22 05:09 PM

oo wee! I raced a lot of miles on one of those. It was a great battle axe for crits. Have fun.

No, I would not try to spread it. Most Cannondale road bikes from the late 80"s are 128mm spaced, so can they take older 7 or 8,9,10 speed.

The Amish use a wooden pole......

There was a cheap, Schwinn Premis I saw on CL not to long ago.....

pastorbobnlnh 11-07-22 05:33 PM

Wowzer! It should be named the "White Lightening" model! Well done!

BTW, I had no trouble fitting 130mm hub in my '92 R600 2.8 Cannondale. They are great riding bikes.

stardognine 11-07-22 05:46 PM

Mmmyip. 👍 I'd prefer a tourer, but I'd ride that, if I had to. 😁😉

gugie 11-07-22 06:01 PM

Ride it like you stole it.
Cause you did.

PhotonDon 11-07-22 06:07 PM

I had a '91 R800 (same frame?). It was the fastest, quickest bike I've ever owned. BUT, back in the day we were using 21-23mm tires pumped to 125 PSI, and that made the AL fork beat me mercilessly. As much as I liked that bike, those cantilevered dropouts always made me avert my eyes. But you did GOOD

A place where they take their "White Out" pretty seriously.

Think I'd have to leave that on there unless I were a Pitt or tOSU fan.

panzerwagon 11-07-22 06:49 PM

Nice score! Add the caliper arms from these to whitify further...

Wait, are you sure that wasn’t a ghost bike someone put out there for a memorial?

Caliwild 11-07-22 06:58 PM

Jesus, that's WHITE HOT! Gumwall/brown-sidewall tires are so nice on a white bike. Enjoy the heck out of it!

With the white Suntour Cyclone 7000, SR FX SLP crank, Dia Compe Alpha II brakes, and Tange Levin CD headset? Nice looking stuff! Alligator brand makes road brake pad holders in white.

bwilli88 11-07-22 07:19 PM

Looks like a White lightening.

fender1 11-07-22 07:40 PM

Ok to confirm this fits 130 rear spacing with no problem.

That is a 10 speed, 12-30 Shimano Ultegra cassette and Blaze derailleurs and levers shift fine across all gears in friction mode.

This one is for Robvolz:

It will live on this trainer until spring, I have sweat protection stuff, and then I will see about a build.

52/52, 13-21 is not really gearing that would work for me. I do have a set of 28 hole Pacenti Brevet/ White Industries t11 hub wheels in silver and either 10 speed Dura Ace dot shifters or 105 brifters.

Looks like it would take 25mm tire max. Anyone ever gotten a 28 on this era?

The nice thing with that setup is you don't have to shift the front very often. :p

Would that count as a 1x?

pastorbobnlnh 11-07-22 08:30 PM

Seeing White Lightening mounted on a trainer--- makes me so happy those cold snowy days of winter training rides are in my past! :D
