Rear View Mirror Question
 

I've always had a Third Eye handlebar rear view mirror and liked it very well. Several years ago they changed it and it had a slight magnification which I found very distracting. I wrote them and they sold me a non-magnifying replacement. All was well until I smashed it.
Does anyone know if the mirror they currently offer has a magnified view? I also saw the Hafney mirrors and they looked interesting - especially the stainless steel one (unbreakable ??)
I'd like to stay with a handlebar mirror and wondered your opinions?

The eye type rear view mirrors take some getting use to but once you do, you may never want to go without.
Whenever I dont have one on my helmet, like now when visiting another local, I feel handicapped.

I have just gotten a Sirrius 6.00 Carbon and am looking for the best of mirrors , with out regard to money. Any suggestions ?

Send an e-mail to Third Eye, they might have an old one in inventory they can sell you. I sent them an e-mail about nine years ago and they were very responsive.

I prefer a helmet mounted one, but you were clear that you want handlebar mount so I won't try to convince otherwise.

All are optical quality glass (not plastic) mirrors with no magnification as far as I can tell.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions. Much appreciated. I did specify a bar mounted mirror but am aware that many people use helmet mounted ones. Maybe it's time to try something different?

I gave you two bar mounted and one helmet mount. I typically use both. The helmet mirror has a much better field of view due to proximity to the eye, its size, and frankly the ability to "scan" the traffic moving your head. I can see a car much, much further away in my EVT than either of the two bar mounts. The Italian one rides under the radar in that it is inconspicuous, I have a couple of those onto my faster racing type bikes. If on the poseur go fast racing bike, I won't wear the uncool, dorky helmet with mirror.

This Third Eye mirror has a threaded clamp that can clamp on a vertical (or near vertical) part of your visor on the left side. They call it a hard shell helmet mirror, I suspect it was designed for the Bell Touring helmet that was sold about four decades ago, thus the odd name.

I like that it can be unthreaded and that loosens the clamp, thus I can remove it and re-install again later. That becomes important if you are flying somewhere with your helmet.

Understand and find it interesting that the "serious" riders actually look upon the eye mirror's as "dorky". They actually reduce accident risk by provided better behind vision. Bikers riding in groups have the group safety effect.

They have all kinds of rules. Helmets are cited under rule 66.
