Some people have too much time on their hands!

Here's a project for the daring bike mechanic.

Chrome steel rims and a grinder to cut in the teeth should do the job.

i didn't want to go too deep, but I'm glad my post spurred like minded thinking.

Omigawd; What could go wrong?
If ever a bike needed a good set of steel fenders, this is it.

looks like it does well cutting down thru snow to the hard ice below, but looks like it has stability issues when leaning into a turn. shows us what benefits a pneumatic tire provides

what do those bikes w/ spikes use? or am I thinking of motorcycles?

what if he cut the ice as he rode, & rode in a circle?

rumrunn6 12-15-21 05:02 AM

what could go wrong?

Boston man bikes on frozen Charles river, falls through the ice, bikes on river again a week later Pro tip: Don't do this.

Yeah, ice racing motorcycles do use heavily spiked pneumatic tires. There are studded bicycle tires available from Schwalbe, Nokian and others typically used by Northern riders who insist on commuting by bike all year or MTB riding all winter.

HEY! The bicycle pizza cutter grew up! Lookin good kid!

In the original version the front wheel is oriented differently from the back wheel. The front wheel is oriented to supposedly facilitate braking: at the contact point the teeth point forward - against the direction of travel.

However, once they upgrade both wheels with extra paddles, the front wheel gets "reversed". Now the front teeth point back (same as the rear wheel).

Was that reversal accidental? Intentional? With paddles it probably does not matter anymore anyway...

icemilkcoffee 12-16-21 02:42 PM

I need that for my local MUP

Camilo 12-17-21 01:45 AM

I guess he doesn't know that studded tires are readily available? But cool video anyway.

Better wear safety glasses.
