My son's and now my grandson's 25+ year old ride before the repaint. New seat, grips and training wheels on order. Going flat black.

12.5" tires are a tough install.

well since everybody is posting multispeed cruisers well here is mine. When I am not riding the green cruiser I am on my white cruiser lol

There seems to be a little bit of latitude as to what a cruiser is based on the bikes posted here, so I'll add mine. It's a 1987'ish Ross Mt. Hood with roller cams front and rear (chainstay mounted). The original bars were replaced with some nice wide risers on a slingshot stem. Added a Brooks Flyer, some cruiser grips, and wide slicks. I don't know if it'll help my cause to mention that the stem quill is 21.1mm. Hope it passes muster.

Here's my 'new' cruiser. Its based on a Nashbar Touring frame and fork, uses 700C wheels with 35mm tires (I could go bigger, but the 35's were on sale for $9/ea over labor day weekend). I was building this up as a heavy duty workout road bike, but a few things in life changed and I decided this is going to be my cruiser. With the bigger wheels and gears it can roll along pretty quickly (and yeah, I need a longer chain).

I like it! I changed up a 90s era mountain bike in very much this same vein:

Might as well add this one, since I put my other former mountain bike on here: Late 80s Univega

Nice chrome frame and seat. I'm liking these mountain bike conversions.

Thanks Greg C and Lastplace29er for the kind words. Lots of cool cruisers here.

Just a personal observation, but these mountain bike conversions need nice wide cruiser bike handlebars to make them true lazy-day cruisers. ;)

I found a 1983 Huffy Good Vibrations in the trash. Had never owned a cruiser (even though I live at the beach) but had a lot of fun bringing it back from the dead. Now I ride it as much as my "real" bike. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=406999http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=407001

Nice work elwoodwins77. Looks like a great bike for the beach. :thumb:

elwoodwins77 09-18-14 02:43 PM

thanks. I fixed up the wire saddlebags that were abandoned with it and put those back on. now it rides the beach in style and I have a place to mount the boombox :)

That's a really nice bike! A cruiser I wouldn't mind riding around. It's not that I don't like them, but I'm not sure I could pull them off ;)

If you are referring to my bike, then thanks! I like the bike with flatbars. I often have a large wire basket attached to the rack for carrying things. It's a really great bike for bashing around the city. I just moved to a more northern city so winter will actually happen here and I may mount up some studded tires and make this my winter ice and slush bike.

Here is my Electra Cruiser 1. I ditched the bull horns in favor of a set of 5" risers, replaced the seat with a Serfas Hybrid model, got rid of the knobbies and put a 16 tooth rear sprocket on it so I wouldn't pedal out.

Is that a recycled recumbent build?

wbuttry 10-26-14 07:24 PM

Yes it is it is a tour easy clone made from the plans that company put out a few years ago. I would not be afraid to take it across the country or around the world but if I was taking it around the world I would have better componets put on it I just used parts off my old mtn bike to build it. I would like to put a 9 spd cassette on it instead of the 7 spd on it now. Right now I got a shimano 505 rear derailer and a shimano tourney front derailer Two sun friction shifters. and nashbar 26x1.50 on the rear and a kenda 20 x1.95 on the front.
