That’s really good stuff. Thanks for posting. I’m wondering what the real-world results were of ti forks as they seemed to be shunned fairly quickly. Tom Kellogg points out the advantages of alu over ti for forks in the article, but seems many of these early rigs offered ti forks.

Yeah, titanium is alright.

...but, check all of those Caprice Classic yellow-cabs in the Thule ad...

Titanium is sexy! I've got two titanium bikes, neither of them in my size. :(

+1 on the Caprice Classics. Rare in my area, but if I run into a nice example at the right price I might just buy it. Thule apparently thought it necessary to emphasize their Europeanness by using a Range Rover and a Saab.

Titanium is on my list of bikes to get one day...

Reminds me of the Caprice police cruisers around here that were deep yellow (before that paint got phased out for the lead content). They were later bought at auction and repainted / repurposed for cabs. Yup had a lot of Caprices here back in the day.

The hitman looking guy waiting to cross the street seems to have a keen interest in the Euro cars too.

OP: Great read. Thanks.

Thanks so much for posting this! I've been going a little crazy trying to find a copy of this issue...
