*Your Ride Reports in 2023*

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Are you an experienced road cyclist? Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? Do you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Touring? Audax/Randonneuring?
Or are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid?

There are no set challenges - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.

Share your 2023 accomplishments with us. :) We love seeing photos of your rides and hearing all about them. :)

Recently traded in my cervelo c2 in for an Emonda ALR 5. Last night was the first time I got to ride it. Went out at 8 pm and did a quick 40. Was concerned about the drivers on a Friday night, but it went well.

texbiker 01-08-23 06:14 PM

I rode each day this week. 4 times on the road and 3 times in Zwift.

This thread is discriminatory for those who live in the northern hemisphere :(

Does cross-country ski count? :innocent:

My first ride of 2023 didn't go as planned. I developed a cut sidewall on my rear (tubeless) tire after only 13 miles on New Year's Day. Fortunately, It was a slow leak and I was only .7 miles from my car. I was able to ride back to it.
I spend the winter in Florida and only bring one bike with me. I did bring a couple of new tires with me because the pair on the bike had about 2,100 miles on them, but no sealant. I just had them rotated and re-sealed before I left PA.
I went to a local shop in Sebring and they installed and sealed the new tire while I waited.
The 4 rides since then have all been at least 35 miles, which is my norm. Below is my winter ride, a 2002 Klein Quantum with the Plum Crazy paint job, that I bought new. I'm thinking about hanging a new 11 speed drivetrain on it when I get back home in the spring. I can't decide whether to stay with silver components or go with black. I'm leaning towards black, but the silver would look more original. Any thoughts?

It was cold and windy yesterday and it was still cold and windy today. Only difference, today I got a flat.

Always love the color of this bike. I think you will be hard pressed to find silver in 11 speed, but I think they black or dark grey would be much easier to locate and would look nice on this bike.

Been stupid windy for the last several days, not to mention a bit cold for my taste, so all my riding has been indoors. I finally ventured outside today, wind was much less an issue, but still quite cool, but doable, did 75 today.

A new challenge awaits

I haven't been riding consistently in over 14 years. I've been more on the running side of things with an occasional triathlon in the mix. This year I am challenging myself to really get back on the bike again and so far it's like love at first sight all over again. My goal is to ride at least 110 miles a month. I can't wait for the spring and summer though ;-).

It's nice to mix it up every now and then.

Beautiful day with temps between about 20 and 22C and a bit of wind about, increasing throughout the day.

Shortly after 11 am, my husband and I set off on a bicycle ride with no time limits. Most of our longer rides have been Audax rides and therefore have a time limit. This one was not an Audax ride ... it was just a ride to see what we could do if we had no time limits and no need to rush.

We flew! For us, that is. We sat on 20 km/h for the first 40 km which is quite a brisk pace ... for us. However we were assisted by a tail wind. :)

Just after 40 km, we arrived in the town we were aiming for and had lunch and a pretty decent break.

Then we headed back, meandering here and there. The wind was a challenging factor on the way back at times, but with no time limits, we kept moving and stopped now and then for a rest.

We had about 10 km to reach our goal when we arrived back at our start location, so we rode up and down roads until we got there.

100 km!! :) :)

That's the first time we've done that distance since my husband's accident almost 5 years ago. And it's 27 km more than our previous longest distance since that accident.

It's quite an accomplishment for us!! :) :)

Close to 4.5 consecutive hours of XC skiing on the same roads I normally cycle in the summer. Not a bike ride, I know, but I don't care :D

No "accomplishments" in quite awhile LOL.
My riding career, in summary:
- of course, rode tons of bikes growing up as a kid. Great times! Falling off, popping wheelies, doing jumps
- didn't ride much at all from about 14 to 27 years old. At 27 I finally got some money and motivation to buy a decent bike. 2011 TREK Cobia and did some mountain biking for a year in Ohio.
- Moved to Asheville NC where they had great biking, but I had a newborn and was in grad school so didn't really ride much at all down there, unfortunately
- Moved back to Iowa and started hauling my kids around town in one of those bike strollers, for exercise.
- Currently - haven't ridden at all in a few years, but just bought two nice road bikes after deciding I'm doing RAGBRAI for the first time this year, which has been BUCKET LIST for me, for a long time. Turning 40 this year, 50th anniversary of RAGBRAI, so I think it's meant to be. For those unaware, it's a ride across the entire state of Iowa. Picking up the 2nd bike today. Then getting an indoor trainer. I'll try to ride on the road 1-2x per week at least, trainer most days of the week. Probably ride my mountain bike around town because there's some gravel loops I like to do (small-town Iowa). Need to put on 500-2,000 miles before July.

This Bike Ride Was Screwed 3/3/2023
I thought the main challenge on today's bike ride would be the wind. I was very wrong.
It all began as I rolled away at 12:15 PM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. After looking at a couple of past rides in SportTracks I decided to ride my Community Drive - Valley Ranch - Cumberland route which usually is around 35 miles. Those miles would help me get back on pace to reach my 650 road mile goal for March. I waited to start the ride hoping the wind would go down and the temperature go up. The temperature went ... read the whole story at

Well, you can’t really call mine bike rides. I had knee replacement surgery on Jan 5th and have been recovering since. I’m on the bike most days. At first unable to make full revolutions so just used the bike to stretch the knee. Now at 10 weeks I can make full revolutions once I loosen up but I still can’t spin at my normal 80-100 cadence. I still have to pedal carefully because there is some tenderness in some spots.

the past few years have been hit or miss and more miss than anything. Back trouble and this pesky knee has had me off the bike a lot. June 2022 had me feeling better on the bike, I did rides of 3, 12, 13 and 23 miles and felt like I was on my way to a great riding summer. It was at that point my arthritic, beat up (from football, skiing and motorcycles) knee called it quits and I decided to get it replaced.

My hope is to be putting on some indoor miles soon and be outside on the road when the weather turns nice in the spring.

March 3:
50 km ride in an area where we haven't cycled since before Rowan's accident. Some great road and cycling infrastructure improvements.

March 9:
Birthday Ride!
Windy - sometimes good wind ... sometimes bad wind.
I designed this Permanent in October 2022 in anticipation that we might get a 50 km ride in during the aftermath of the flooding. This route was the least flood affected I could come up with. Unfortunately travel was not recommended and we did not test it out then.
This was our first chance to give it a go and it lived up to its name. It was mostly dry, with just a small splatter of rain along the way. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f642.png And a whole lot of wind!

We did one of our monthly 50 kilometre bicycle rides. We went early to avoid the traffic and to try to get it in before the wind became really strong. The traffic wasn't bad, but the wind was strong!

At about 11:40 am, the wind was blowing NW at 37 km/h (23 mph) gusting to 72 km/h (45 mph) and it didn't get any better.

In some directions, it was great! In others, it wasn't.

We struggled a bit and were slower than usual, but we made it!

My longest ride ever. Would have gone for the even 300 except it was dark, my headlight had run out of battery, and I was in an unfamiliar city.
