Sacramento Area C&V Rides on third Saturday Beginning in September

Colleagues,

Working with some of the local C & V community to get regular local rides going in the Sacramento area. We have a draft route for the September 17th ride and we are going to double check it in a week to make sure it is a suitable route. The start/end location is going to be the strip mall in Gold River adjacent to the American River Bike Trail. There is a large Starbucks, a few casual restaurants and a supermarket in the strip mall so it has a good infrastructure for a ride start. Locals can bike over to the ride start using the ARBT. The strip mall is on Sunrise Blvd so there is easy access from Highway 50 or Highway 80 for people who are driving in.

I have also started the Facebook group “Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Group” where I will simultaneously post ride information for our rides and other local vintage rides. I am doing this because there are some local C&V people who are not that active on BF. You are welcome to join that, too.

The draft route is about 27 miles and 900 feet of climbing. Social pace is the goal. We are taking into account our vintage bikes, and in many cases, our vintage bodies.

Drop me a note or respond in this thread if you are interested in being a part of this going forward.

Thanks Albert. I'll keep an eye out for the group. I joined the FB group as well.

...subscribing. I usually ride alone, but I might be able to change. :)

Good luck with your vintage rides. I hope the weather will also cooperate.

When we drove home from a camping trip last year, we spent time along the river, and I would love to do that on a bike. I’m watching and hope to join sometime. I have to attend an important family event Sept 17, so I can’t attend the first one.

Had a nice ride with the Bay Area group today

Their route of 27 miles with a few mild hills seemed just right for what we are shooting for. Nice group of six riders welcomed me into the fold today. Picked up some good ideas to help our ride’s success. Pace was about 15 mph with frequent regroups which seemed perfect for a conversation pace. Very nice day!

September 17

Hey Joe,

I received your note about the ride on September 17, and I seem to have that date free, and expect to keep it that way. Please offer me more details as they become available. In the meantime, I'm attending the next Eroica, held in a couple of weeks in Germany. I am not a subscriber to any of the social media accounts, so the best way to contact me is directly through my personal e-mail address, if you have it.

Howard

I will always post details of rides here, too

Howard, I’ll make sure I put the details of the ride up here with plenty of time for you to plan and be prepared to participate. I haven’t posted the route yet because I want to ride it next week to be sure it is suitable. Looking forward to having you participate.

By way of explanation- I put a few feelers out to some local vintage bike enthusiasts I know, including Howard, about the ride. If he doesn't follow the thread here, I'll be sure to keep him up to date with the details. Thanks much for organizing the ride, Alberto! Joe

Route and start time for Sacramento vintage ride on September 17, 2022

We have settled on a route for the Sacramento vintage ride on September 17th. Mostly on the upper portion of the American River Bike Trail, including the newer section known as the Johnny Cash Trail in Folsom. 27 mile route with about 1,200 feet of climbing. Will be a social pace. Looking forward to meeting some new people in the vintage bike community!

Large parking lot in the strip mall containing the Starbucks. There is a Beach Hut Cafe at the finish which will be a good spot for refreshments and lunch after the ride.

Date: Saturday, September 17, 2022
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Starbucks parking lot-2095 Golden Centre Ln, Gold River, CA 95670- https://goo.gl/maps/KnvBKmZ9tHntMYn87
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40441105

Ride is on! Slight route modification.

Colleagues,

I am looking forward to the ride on September 17th at 9 a.m. The route is about 26 miles with 1,100 feet of climbing on gentle, bike trail inclines. Pace will be social. Shooting for about a 15 mph average moving speed with multiple regroups. The ride starts in the parking lot of the Starbucks in Gold River. Here is a Google maps link. https://maps.app.goo.gl/hReQXUw1SjbWcZ3C9?g_st=ic

There is construction at the Ambassador Drive entrance to the American River Bike Trail so we are getting on the trail a half mile upriver to avoid this. Here is the modified route on Ride with GPS. Please discard the previous map that was shared and use this one. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40842956 .

I will also have paper turn by turn maps for those of you without GPS on their vintage bikes. Here is a link to the PDF of the turn by turn. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ep2...w?usp=drivesdk

A small group of us are cycling to the ride start from the Guy West Bridge at 8 am if you want to add some miles to the endeavor. Give me a heads up if you plan to join us there.

Sacramento Vintage Ride is on for this Saturday!

Weather is looking good and we are going to beat the rain by a day! I am aware of 10 RSVPs with a few of those for multiple riders so we should have a good group. If you are inclined, you are welcome to jump on at the last minute. RSVPs are not required and the details of the start time, route, and starting point are in the above thread. I should arrive at about 8:50 a.m. with a few riders who are biking from the Guy West Bridge starting at 8 a.m. I will have a few printed route maps to hand out to those who need them.

I am thinking I will make the drive up from the valley. I hope to talk my wife into goin gback to our old haunts!
Thanks Albert!

Great ride today!

The inaugural ride of the Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Group turned out really well. Beautiful bikes, skilled and safe riders, and excellent weather made for a great time.

We are going to skip October in deference to the Davis Bike Club Vintage Populaire they are holding on October 8, 2022. Our ride in November will likely be a turkey burner on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We will have more info, soon!

Great job guys, ifn I was a stronger rider, I would try to wind something like this up here more.

I got not enough for group rides, especially recently, not sure how this is going to go.

Need to go for a ride now. ;)

Thanks again for organizing the ride, Albert! Great ride and amazingly, the weather was beautiful!

Thanks so much for organizing this, Albert. Great ride, great group, great bikes!

JoeBass 09-17-22 09:30 PM

Can’t add too much more other than to repeat what others have said- Great ride with great folks! Thanks Albert for getting this thing going! If some of you folks in the Bay Area haven’t had a chance to ride the American River Bike Trail, joining one of these rides would be a great way to check it out!

Hey, bibliobob! Great to see you and that gorgeous dusty rose Cinelli again. We met at Eroica CA - I had the giant economy-sized blue Eroica-compliant Cinelli with the, er, um, patina. Earlier in this thread, Albert posted a pic of me from the August Peninsula ride (I'm pictured in the RG Hamburg jersey with the giant economy-sized definitely-not-Eroica-compliant silver Cinelli.)

As for the rest of you, I told you that you were in good hands with Sactown_Albert. Delighted to hear you all had a good time. And what a great bunch of machines.:thumb:

Thanks, and it's great to see you. You should come up for one of the rides here! And, hope to see you down there at some point ..
