Great era for women's and men's frames but he could have posted one pic of said fork. Spidey senses tingling.
Still, I'd grab that '53 Dawn he has listed up there if it was a 23". Sadly, everything he has listed is a 21. -Kurt |

Picked up the Sports today, gave it a quick wipe and she’s looking pretty good, looks like the hub says 78 to me. Has the original Raleigh tires on it.

The 78/12 is a pretty safe sign it's probably a '79. Come to think of it, I know these were all two-tone, but I can't recall seeing the late two-tone Coffee variant until now. Looks very nice.

Trivia Question
When did Nigel Tuffnel originally appear? However, I don’t recall ever seeing photos of him riding an English three-speed bike, though he has been credited as the inspiration for the 11-speed bike (which is, of course, one better than a ten-speed). |

Hmmm...I would assume 1984 with the release of “This Is Spinal Tap.”

Believe it or not he appears on an episode of American Bandstand (1979) with Lenny and Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley....

When Spinal tap came out my friends and I were in a band and must have seen the movie 10 times. A few of years later I was working in the film business on a movie with... Christopher Guest! The movie was terrible (Sticky Fingers) but we had some good conversations. |

That's very pretty....what do you call this?
Lick my bike pump? Yes, we young men could watch that film ad infinitum. |

Sounds like a challenge for someone daft enough to come up with an AW hub chained to an eight speed cluster. Three plus eight = genius!

Except the hub would act as a triple crankset; each of the three speeds in the hub combined with each of the eight on the cluster equals 24.
(Ok, ok...you’re absolutely right. But this a reference to a scene in the movie This is Spinal Tap when a dim-witted band member [Nigel Tufnel, as referenced earlier] tries to explain that his amps are louder than normal ones ‘cause the scale on the volume knob goes to eleven instead of just ten. Same dim-witted character who, with his equally dim-witted band mate, says “It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever” which set all of this off!) Now...enough of dim-build English band members and back to English three-speed bikes! 😁 |

I understood the reference. Saw the movie once. But why would Nigel settle for 11 on a bike when he could have an honest 24? I know, I know, "But this one goes to 24" just doesn't have the same cachet.
