I need lights for safety reasons not riding at night. Which pairs are recommended. It seems to me battery-based lights have substantially longer life.

Thoughts??

Second this. These have been terrific lights. Also love how they pair up to my cycling computer and turn on automatically when I start a ride.

I use rechargeable lights, front and rear. My most recent acquisitions were Cygolites, and they are quite good, feature wise and they have lasted for a four hour ride without issue. My oldest light is a Blinder by Knog, bought 6 years ago and still just as strong and long lasting. They all recharge in a few hours with a phone charger. Definitely recommend running both front and rear.

I live on Long Island, home of the 112# mommy in a 6000# SUV.

I have the lights on my bike but generally don't have them on.

I can easily turn on the front and or rear while riding if conditions like deep shadows or very low sun angle deem it needed. There's been many early mornings that i'm riding on a quiet road and the sun is not above the trees and a car coming around a turn won't see me until they are on top of me. During the January the sun is very low in the southern sky and heading north i'm blind to a car coming from a cross street and looking south.

Having the lights available means I don't always have to assume they don't see me.

I'll take the weight penalty for the added safety as needed.

Long Island has the worst drivers. I have been in my car, STOPPED, and been read ended three times. Once hard enough to total the car. I will watch this and think a BRIGHT REAR light is imperative to safety.

How heavy is your bike? ;)

I walked away. Just glad my bike wasn't in the trunk. It would of been hard to explain that a bike costs that much to the insurance agent.

Are the Bontrager (Trek) lights mentioned above BRIGHT. Can they be seen on sunny days and from a distance. Anything to get attention back to the road where it should be.

To me, this is an important topic to try and insure our safety.

Yes, that are good for sunny days. Go to a Trek dealer and ask to take them outside, turn them on and walk down the block.

They would of used a blotter to clean up the mess.

The police asked me a number of times if i wanted to go to the hospital. Glad I didn't or i'd be dealing with a huge bill.

Lights will usually have a lumen output listed. Reputable brands have believable lumen output claims .... EBay knockoff,s, take your chances.

I don't ride at night but with the Time Change I may get caught coming home in lower sunlight conditions.
I use coin battery operated micro LEDs (front and back) and will turn them on to the annoying strobe function. Inexpensive enough to put them on all my bikes.
Batteries get replaced yearly and spares are kept in my bag.....

Very bright. I have actually had multiple people comment as they are driving by how much they loved them, and how far away they could see me.

So I went to the site and they are out of stock. They say to use a local. 2 locals near me.

#1 is out of stock and back-ordered until late Oct.
#2 is closed for vacation.
