I passed a guy in full team kit riding a carbon bike with zipp 404's today ...

... while riding my hybrid.
... and he wasn't on anything that even remotely looked like a recovery ride.

True story. :thumb:

Morale: don't be that guy ;)

My vote is "dont be that guy" that comes on BF bragging about passing a dude when you have no idea what he was doing. Not every day is race day for some people.

Chansd5 08-05-12 01:06 PM

Or,
He could have been coming home on a double century.

which guy? the rich guy out exercising or the dweeb on a hybrid?

Fleabiscuit 08-05-12 01:10 PM

That was me, practicing my slow riding! Lucky for you it wasn't Thursday. That's when I practice my blazing fast riding. On Mondays, I practice my no hands riding, and on Wednesdays I race hybrid and MTB riders on the local MUP. My race record is something like 5-6 on the Wednesday "throw-downs". An older gent on a sweet Denali with straight bars broke my unbeaten streak and has narrowly beat me four weeks in a row..although I am not 100% sure he knows we are racing. You aren't that guy by chance, are you? Look out, I'm watching for you!

Reminds me of the time once where I did my first 100 miles with nearly 10,000 ft of climbing in searing Socal summer heat. Ran out of fluids with 30 miles to go, didn't have enough salt, and was nearly delirious by the end. (I'd hammered the first 40 miles at over 22mph with the LaGrange bike club.) On my Cervelo, no less, and riding back through the urban parts of Santa Monica, doing <11mph on a flat. Had some guys on mtn bikes blow by and yell 'pick it up, Cervelo!" Classy.

Was he going the same direction as you?

And the whole way home you're thinking, "I can't wait to start a thread about this!"

The rich guy is coming back after some serious injuries and several doctors telling him he would never ride again. Even though his riding may seem slow to experts that ride hybrids today was the best day of his life. That is until he got online and saw some pompous hybrid riding anonymous guy posting on the internet about how slow the rich guy was in order to boost his own ego.

It's right in the owners manual of zip 404's that the user is required to go full speed as soon as they clip in or the warranty is voided.

Maybe he:
Just had knee surgery
was dehydrated
Back in the saddle after a break
was riding a flat tubular
was waiting for someone
was enjoying being out side
was limping home after a mechanical failure
was on his way to breaking the 100lb weight loss mark
was avoiding his inlaws

Velo Gator 08-05-12 01:22 PM

Also moral vs. morale.

Don't be that guy.

ahsposo 08-05-12 01:24 PM

It's those aero bars on your hybrid that gives you the "edge".

Whatever you say, praying mantis.

This is going well!

canam73 08-05-12 02:10 PM

Next time you see him run home quick and get your dog and then pass him again. That will teach him.

Oh, and it's 'moral', not 'morale'.

This thread could go far. :deadhorse:

Maybe the guy on the Carbon bike wanted to see what a guy on a Hybrid bike would actually look like.....
