What is your bike's name?

I have been lurking on these forums for a while and I was wondering if everyone named their rides or not.
Have not named mine yet.

climberguy 02-19-13 12:24 PM

My bikes came with names when I bought them. One is the "Izoard." Another is the "GT" (GranTurismo). They have their names written on them already. I can't see a reason to call them anything else.

howsteepisit 02-19-13 12:25 PM

I call my bike "my bike" or at time "my Mercian" I canot get too personal to something that is being stuck up my behind.

crazyb 02-19-13 12:30 PM

I have one called road, one called mountain, one called cross, and one called single speed, their last names are all the same. Bike

wphamilton 02-19-13 12:35 PM

I call it "Superbike".

Never thought of that.....

Have not named mine yet.

Lately, it's name is "Lonely", unfortunately... :(

Linedog 02-19-13 12:47 PM

Mine is named Bob, why? Because that's what he said it was.

Biker395 02-19-13 12:52 PM

Tanya, Trixie, and Alkippe. Yes, all of them are female names. :D

Oh, and while I flirted with the notion of naming the 35 pound rain bike "Mocha" or other some such thing, I settled in on "The Tank."

Not me but I've given it some thought. I have a friend that owns a Pinarello Dogma that he calls Penny with an e instead of and i.

Boudicca 02-19-13 01:14 PM

Sure.

There's Gandalf the Merlin, Cea the commuter (long story there) and Ami the folder. It's short of Origami, because she folds. I used to have a hybrid called Julius, but he got stolen and then recovered, and then I sold him. Sometimes I get confused, and call them by the wrong name, but they don't really seem to mind.

CraigB 02-19-13 01:28 PM

I've never seen the need, nor the appeal. The road bikes are simply the Trek or the Cannondale. Sometimes the Fisher is the Fisher, sometimes it's the mountain bike. And then there's the Catrike. Back when I had only one bike at a time, they were always "the bike."

Perhaps I lack imagination.

Celeste (What else would you name a Bianchi?)
Old Red ('88 Trek 900)
StupidBike ('88 Schwinn Prologue)

I used to have a Specialized Allez named "Ali"

Several other bikes that haven't acquired names yet, but I'm working on that.
2002 Diamondback tandem. No ideas.
80's Benotto unknown model, future fixed conversion. Thinking of Trixie (the Fixie)
'92 Schwinn Crosscut. Thinking of "Pearl"

Pamestique 02-19-13 01:54 PM

I generally refer to my bikes as "the Lemond" or "the Juliana" but two I have actually named. The first is the Landshark which I call the "Hello Kitty" bike because of its bright and pretty colors and people always ask if I got it from Walmart (no...i did not!) and second is my commuter which I call Frank'n'weenie 'cause it was put together with an old tired frame and spare parts.

Love Bianchi Celeste.

droy45 02-19-13 02:13 PM

My handbuilt frame was already named when I got it, "Irrational Devotion", I then built it up but I just call it my commuter.

Dudelsack 02-19-13 02:28 PM

I wanted to call my bent the Honey Badger, but really it should be called the Gravity Sled.

Daspydyr 02-19-13 02:37 PM

I named my Orca Flipper because Shamu would be too obvious.

I nicknamed my Mountain Bike "Widowmaker." I have gotten some genuine owies on it!

leob1 02-19-13 02:57 PM

Just one has a name, Rusty Staub. becuase it\he are nick naed La Grand Orange.

DowneasTTer 02-19-13 03:48 PM

My wife and I have a long history of naming things like cars, rvs, etc. With my wife being a former elementary school teacher we have always called our road/hybrids bikes Thing One & Thing Two and our Mtn bikes Thing Three & Thing Four.

CommuteCommando 02-19-13 03:57 PM

I don't name my bikes or cars. When I was in the Navy, the ship I was on was "it", not "she".

lhbernhardt 02-19-13 04:10 PM

Although I have a profound and visceral attachment to my bicycle, I've always thought that giving it a name was really dumb. Really, really dumb!

Luis

chrismorg 02-19-13 04:23 PM

when climbing steep hills I often lovinly tell my bike to "move you POS"

Bikey Mikey 02-19-13 05:32 PM

I don't call my bike since it can't answer.

John_V 02-19-13 06:09 PM

My Colnago is known as Nago.
