NYT Article: 3 Teens, Teacher Currently Biking Across U.S.

A good read. One of their names rings a bell, seems like one of them may have been on the Adventure Cycling forums asking for advice some weeks back...

That's crazy. We crossed paths with these folks yesterday. My wife and I were riding the Great Allegheny Passage trail in south west PA over the weekend. We decided to stay at a hostile on Saturday evening in Rockwood, PA after a long day of riding in the rain. Camping was not an option after such a day. This group of four arrived in the hostile at 10 PM after coming from Pittsburg. Pittsburg was 110 miles north of Rockwood. I had an opportunity to speak with them briefly before we left in the morning. Very nice folks. They told me it was the first night they stayed in a hostile. I just assumed that it was a father with his three kids. All four were up early prepping their bikes for another long day. They were back on the road by 7 AM yesterday. Good luck to them.

One sneaky trick to view without subscribing is to hit the X to stop the download the very instant the color photo has loaded. One small collapsible window will appear that you can close and then view the article.

You can do the same in Firefox: the very instant the color photo loads, click on the icon in the right side of the address bar that looks like a piece of paper with lines of writing on it. That takes you into Reader View, which vaults you over the paywall.

Good read, thanks for posting. Makes me wish I were a "few" ;) years younger.

Wow! That’s a long day. I’ve done Pittsburgh to Connellsville then Connellsville to Rockwood in two days.

Shame conditions were not amenable to camping. The first time I stayed at Husky Haven an owl pounced on a chipmunk maybe 15 feet from my picnic table.
