Garmin aluminum mount for 25.4mm bar?
 

Does anyone know where to buy a Garmin mount for 25.4mm bar. It seems almost all Garmin mount clamp size is 31.8mm. I need to add a small Garmin computer to my Cinelli steel bike which uses traditional 25.4mm handlebar. Would love a polished aluminum color Garmin mount to go along with a polished bar and stem. Thanks. AX.

Usually they come with a thick rubber bushing that you use on the 25.4 mm bar. And a thinner bushing too for 31.8mm. If you buy the mount used, then you might be SOL for the little extras that Garmin usually gives.

If you are buying direct from Garmin's site, then look carefully and see if the tell you in the description of the one you are looking at. If not then look for the link to the manuals and check in the installation instructions.

To make the out-front mount that comes with the Edge 530 fit my 50 year old bike, I wrapped 1-2 layers of cotton h'bar tape around my bars and used the thick spacer. IIRC, the thick spacer alone wasn't thick enough, and the thick + thin spacers were too thick.

I make shims with self-fusing silicone tape. Once I wrap it and clamp it for a day, it cannot be unwrapped. It can be cut, and sometimes after cutting, it can be reused. I really like this tape.

I know a lot of those mounts come with a rubber/resin shim. The shim option just looks clumsy. The 31.8mm clamp looks huge on a 25.4mm bar. It sticks out so much. Too bad no company makes Garmin mounts for 25.4mm. I can understand why. It's such a tiny market.

Late to the party here, but do you have a standard four bolt stem clamp for the handlebar? If so, an out front mount that connects to the bottom two bolts of the stem handlebar clamp is probably the way to go. I've got a 25.4mm bar on one of my bikes and struggled with this same problem myself, but with the out front mount connected to the stem that problem is totally resolved. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately it's a traditional quill type stem. There's no faceplate to mount the out-front Garmin mount.

I have a few of these, but don't like the way it sits on a polished quill stem. I prefer to not have anything attached to the stem. Out-front style works the best with a quill stem.

Shimming is simply a bunch of wraps of black vinyl electrical tape. Old tubes if you still have them, whatever.

As well, I prefer to use Cheap plastic out front mounts, the theory being if I take a hit, I want the cheap mount to break, not the tabs on the quarter turn of the Garmin. Thus I stay away from aluminum mounts. I have a decade or so with the inexpensive plastic, have never had one fail.

McMaster or GreenShields or similar have bronze bushings. Bronze is soft. It is a trivial matter to buy one that is 1 inch inner and 1&1/4 outer diameters and cut it in half so that each half can be placed around the bar & clamped in place. Way better and more rigid than tape or rubber.
