Favorite cruiser tires?

What's everyone's favorite cruiser tire? I'm thinking about converting my 1995 Giant CFM-4 MB into a cruiser hybrid. It came with Panaracer 26 x 2.10 tires but I think I can go a little wider. This will be for 95% MUP/neighborhood type riding.

Schwalbe Big Apple 26 x 2.35 Supple ride, decent flat protection, nice reflective band.

Thanks for the input. What's everyone's thoughts on Maxxis Hookworms? Wondering if I can get a 2.5 tire on my Bontrager BCX-3 rims? I think they are 17.1mm wide internal? Again, they came with 2.1s.

Hookworms Are Tough

I have Hookworms on a couple of my recumbents. They are nearly indestructible and I can't ever recall flatting with one of them. They are also heavy but on the bikes we're talking about weight usually isn't a big concern.

If you can go to 26 x 2.5 these look interesting:

Those Surlys look great. I'd like to find a pair in slate 26 x 2.5. I'll need to use tubes with them and need to make sure they'll fit my rims.

Maxxis DTH come in 26" X 2.15 and 2.35 widths. Lightweight and look good (especially in tan sidewall).

Another option is the Schwalbe 'Billy Bonkers'

Anybody try the Continental Contact Cruiser tires?

Thanks again.

Haven’t tried the tires , but I did check out the seller . I would advise you do the same . 52% positive rating .

Thanks for the input,

Yeah, I probably won't get them on Amazon based on the sellers rating but was just providing a link from there.

I've had a few Kenda Kwest and 838s, those aren"t bad

I actually just picked up an Electra Cruiser 1 in Matte Bark today. It was too good of a deal to miss. So now I'm looking for two sets of cruiser tires, one for the Giant CFM-4 and the other for the Cruiser 1. After a bunch of reading and the great advice here, I'm leaning towards some tan Maxxis DTH 26 x 2.3 tires on the Cruiser 1. Still unsure on the CFM-1. Maybe the DTHs in black or the Continental Contact Cruisers as the CFM-4 is black carbon fiber.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.

I don't have my bike yet, but in my imagination I'm looking forward to Hookworm 2.5s. I really want that smooooth roll and cushy ride. But I haven't fully researched it either. Your thread helps. Thank you.

My favorate was the Schwinn Westwind or Typhoon Cord. It had a brick bond pattern that was smooth rolling and had enough of a pattern that it would grip in dirt or light mud. They also had a look that was classic. Many of their balloon and middleweight bicycles got these tires. Of course these aren't made by Schwinn anymore.

There are other brands that are making brick pattern tires. To me, that is essential for a Schwinn Cruiser. Duro seen to have them in a variety of colors and sizes. I think Schwalbe has a brick pattern tire.

As you can see from the picture above, I need to start looking for replacement tires for my Schwinn Heavy Duti.

Got Schwalbe Fat Franks on my cruiser. Air them up and they roll great. Air down and get a cushioned ride
