If it's any consolation, my Dad was 11 when the stock market crashed, and he mostly had fond memories of childhood during the Depression. Kids ARE resilient, and on the plus side, they're not working 12 hours a day in a mill!
My biggest issue now is what kind of country and world they're going to be living in as adults. My dad was six at the crash. His only scar, that I am aware of, was his refusal to eat cabbage ever again. |

I made a grim discovery at the church this evening. Since I mowed the lawn on Thursday, a bunch of dead leaves have fallen on the driveway.
Autumn is officially here. The season formerly known as summer lasted a scant four weeks. |

My thoughts too. Our first grandchild is due in late August. Fifty years hence? Beyond my capabilities to imagine.

Must be time to service the winter commuter. Or at least pump up the tyres. It felt like trying to ride through treacle this morning.

Most of the counties around us, including ours, full online at the very least to the end of first semester. They’re going to reevaluate for spring semester mid November. :(

Some of us have to stay on our best behavior around the mods. We don't have that built in 'stop' that so many if youse take for granted.

My dad loved cabbage in all kinds of dishes. My mother made it for him quite often. Stuffed cabbage rolls, cole slaw, and all manner of German dishes. I love it too. Mrs. John uses it in a stir fry and it's yummy.

Right now the plan here is to have regular school + online school for those who have already opted for it. Sounds like a mess in the making.

I haven't had sauerkraut in a while. Nor cabbage. I prefer Brussel Sprouts.

Your winter is our October, probably. |
My grandmother used to make sauerkraut in a large crock in her basement.
The memory of which has rendered the canned stuff inedible, some of the jarred stuff is marginally "ok". |

Got to be at the mechanic by 8 so I can possibly get a same-day inspection.
|
House inspection this morning. Hopefully nothing major is wrong with it.

We've been getting a lot of rain, but it's been unusually cooperative in terms my riding schedule. Woke at 5:30, per usual, and saw that some rains had moved through. Clouds were still lingering and provided a nice sunrise -
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...89e5bfb897.jpg Unfortunately, the roads were still wet, too, which means an increase in puncture likelihood, and I heard my rear tire hissing upon getting home. I'm scheduled for a sealant level check tomorrow, but my mileage rate has just about doubled in the last six weeks, so it might be that I'm actually past-due. Guess I should see to that today. :o |

My wife’s been making sauerkraut lately. And kimchi. I’m not into either one. She and an organic farmer friend are preparing an instructional slide show for some upcoming event.
